After much deliberation, combined with finding a reputable and affordable manufacturer of new blocks, i have placed my name on the list to get a new BBM 427 FE side oiler block.

Anticipated arrival ~September. Having dealt with cars and performance parts for many years, i already know to add three months to that date.

Anyway, after many calls to actual builders that have handled the BBM block, i made the decision to move from a used 390, to a more respectable 427 FE!

I am freaking excited! Thank God for a company that is not charging an incredibly inflated price just because they can.....(yet).

The block may sit in its crate for a while, while i auction off clothes and other things to fund the complete build.

Either way, at some point within the next 2 - 3 years i will be able to answer the number question with the following:

"Yes, its a 427 FE Side Oiler!"

I'd say Cammer, baby!

Seriously, sound choice. Did BBM require a deposit to hold your spot in line? And is your plan to ship the block to the builder, once your ready to build your engine?

Thanks. I was in the Al camp, but im leaning toward Fe.

No real thought on heads, cams, etc. None other than it will be a single carb.

But the engagement phase is almost over, therefore, i will have plenty of time to research options while the bride gets dressed. +/- a year or so.

Thanks.

No, i wanted to pay a deposit, but they said not until production. As of now they just keep an "i want" list. They said they would contact all of the people on the list and receive deposits at that time. Little do they know, my patience is limited....i will most likely be calling every month, just to be sure..lol

I know that things usually aren't "real" until a deposit of some sort is paid.

Yes, i plan to ship it directly to the builder.

I saved some of the images to the ERA website, so he can't lose them.

Jeez, I had forgotten this one. As a final tweak, consider having bungs welded in the pipes in an inconspicuous spot. That, and a trap door on the side of the tunnel to easily get to the front u-joint are the only two mods that, after a decade of ownership, I would have had done for me.

It varies -- but a total, 100% turnkey can, if things are backed up, take a while. It's always wise to call Peter P. to find out how the calendar is looking.

And beige cars take even longer.

wasn't knocking it, I know it's a solid product, just surprised at the full year plus. I was thinking of doing a kit in the next year and narrowing it down, that is why I asked. I'll give Peter a call.

You can usually get your kit in a matter of a few months, depending on how much you have them tweak it. Remember, full turnkeys are also at the mercy of the engine builder, the painter, etc.

When I sent my deposit in, Peter told me twelve months. The car (a roller) was delivered in twelve months plus the time it took to paint it. I ordered the engine when I ordered the car, and asked for it in twelve months. That gave the engine builder enough time.

It's been a few years now but I ordered my kit #782 as an unfinished semi-roller and did all the body work, painting, and assembly myself. It was about 9 months for fabrication and delivery.

Hmmmmm, they might want to consider a "concierge" service. You know, for a fee you step to the front of the line, no waiting, etc. That might even catch RodKnock's eye....
