Front End Lube Question
I see in the ERA manual that the recommended lubrication for the front end includes the upper and lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends, inner and outer pivots on the rear lower control arm and the lower spherical joint of the front shock. But in glancing under my front end this morning some of those items don't have zerk fittings. What's the preferred lube method for those?

TTT -- Hmm, I take from the lack of responses that a lot of you use the "if it doesn't have a grease fitting it doesn't get greased" approach? Bob P., what's a better answer?

I thought that there were lube fittings at the ball joints, tie rods, and the inner and outer pivots of the rear control arms (Jag only). Which are you missing?

I was looking mainly at the spherical joint on the front shock and couldn't see how you would easily grease it. I didn't see zerk fittings on the lower control arm pivots either -- but is that a Jag-rear only issue? When you refer to the "front shock" are we talking the shocks at the front of the car or the front shock of the Jag-rear?

patrickt,
I took my front Spax shocks out about 5 minutes ago and just saw your post. There is a spherical ball in there and the lower shock mount, but no provision for greasing; I don't think it needs one. I wouldn't even remove the shock, and the best you could do is clean it out and maybe spray some WD40 on it with a tube or something. It moves pretty freely anyhow. DC

I've seen some abnormal wear and/or squeaking at the bottom connection of the front shock so I'd recommend keeping it lubed. Look around for spray-can grease or just cover both sides of the joint with standard or silicone grease.
It's not necessary to lube the bottom or top of the Jag-based suspension's shocks except maybe a little rubber lube.

That's what I wanted to know -- thanks Bob and Duane.
