That's gorgeous. And I particularly like the padding on the roll bar.;)

Thanks! As you know, yours was an inspiration. BTW, how did the colors compare in person??

lamaluv 12-16-2010 04:55 PM

The color was very close especially with my paint job being about 25 years old. From 20 feet away it looked exactly the same. It was cool seeing your car in person after discussing it here on this thread.

Doug is the best...last time I was there he was doing a final shake down run on a car going overseas and asked if I'd go for a ride...he didn't have to ask twice:D

Doug's workmanship is magnificent! Not only is his work the highest quality, it also is the most thoughtful. I was pretty much speechless as he took me over the car, pointing out all the details and the decisions he made to get the optimum result. I wouldn't change a thing: the finished car has met or exceeded all of my hopes. For me it is the perfect Cobra.

Jeff,

Nice set of photos ... don't think you missed a thing. The carb setup is very cool, will you probably get some nice intake noises to go with the exhaust note.

What tires did you go with, can't quite tell from the photos. The rear suspension is a work of art ... shame to cover it up with the wheels ;)

Look forward to seeing it on the ground and out in the sun ... keep those pictures coming !

RAO-3 12-17-2010 07:58 AM

Looking really good; have you made plans for transport?

I bet you can't wait to get it home and in your garage!

With this chapter coming to a close, soon a new chapter will begin for you.

Jeffy,

Your car has really come together nicely. I agree with tkb289; I don't think you have missed a thing. I would love to see the look on your face when you finally take delivery. Good luck and keep posting pictures and video. I would like to see video of you driving down 5th avenue.

The Avons. Nice big and fat, with a plain sidewall. The Avon stencils look pretty good, but I don't think the car needs lettered tires.

fastd 12-17-2010 07:08 PM

Jeffy,

What size did you go with your Avons? I am thinking that I am going to go with less width on my rears on my next set? I have 295s now.

Phil

strictlypersonl 12-18-2010 07:25 AM

The 295s should fit in the rear, but the 275/55 has an identical diameter with a little narrower width, if that's your preference. Avon's sizing is a bit "loose". We've also found that 225s in the front are almost identical to other tires' 235 size, whereas their 235s are larger.

I let Peter P. pick the size. I don't know whether they are 275 or 295. Maybe Bob knows or can find out.

No plans other than Peter P. said he would set me up when the time came.

Sadly, the car will be going to my friend's house in Bronxville for the winter. He has a two car garage, but only one car (a Suburban) and that one doesn't fit. So that will be the next home until the warm months when I'll move it to my local garage in Manhattan. I don't think my friend can fit into the Kirkey so I'm not too worried about him taking it out for too many spins! Maybe I'll take the steering wheel home just to be safe...

Would love to get together with you, Snakebit, Rick Lake, Jim Holden and the others in the area sometime next summer so we can all meet in person and have a ride in each other's car (or cars in Jim's case). I'm very curious to see how much difference that 428 of yours makes!

Jim Holden 12-18-2010 10:38 AM

Jeffy:

Your car was safely up on the lift yesterday and did not appear to suffer any collateral damage when the food fight started.

I see that you have gone with the Cherokee Jeep no driver door option...

Perhaps come spring we should have a gathering of the ERA owners that reside in the greater metro area here at the end of the lane... grill some mammal parts, tell lies... that sort of thing.

Getting into the Kirkey is hard enough as it is with the steering wheel off and no door. It'll just make things easier...

Hey Jeffy,

Did you paint or powdercoat your wheels? If you could elaborate I would appreciate it.

BTW, I really think your FIA could be one of the best I've "seen."
