The slave cylinder has an internal spring that forces the piston out to its furthest extended position.
1/ Remove the external return spring.
2/ Push the fork forward (toward the slave). The amount of motion indicates the clearance at the throwout bearing.
3/ Adjust the rod-link so you get 1/8"-3/16" motion at the fork.
4/ Re-install the external spring. The spring must be strong enough to pull the fork forward to bottom out the slave.
