Default Does anyone know something about this ERA 427

Hi there,
i bought lately this red ERA 427 from an insurance auction, and shipped it to Germany. The car had a texas registration as an antic ( 7J09 )and had big letters on the rightside of the front bonnet E.R.A.. It came to me with a right hand side side impact.
Unfortunally the chassis had been powder coated and i canīt see the chassis no.
I would like to know, what kinda Big Block is in the car.
It has screwed in frost buttons and strenghlining outside the cast block.
There are some casting no. which are not that well readable.
E I
2EI8 ?
12DIF or
18DIP ?
It has a FoMoCo intake

On the drivers footbox is a manufacturers plate stamped with a particular ERA chassis number, what is the number stamped in to this plate as shown in the engine compartment photo?

All 289 and 427 cars were stamped on the driver's side front shock mount. In addition, later cars had the brass plate shown below put over the actual chassis stamping.

Early 427 cars also had the chassis number molded into the body as shown below.

The chassis number is also stamped into the side of the right chassis rail above the rear suspension.

is there any number on the cross member between the engine and radiator? I know the new models the ERA tag is on the top of the cross member so you may want to check that out....Also...call Pieter at ERA...given the big ERA on the hood, he will most likely know about the car.

The motor is certainly an FE series (390/428/427) and with screw in freeze plugs it is more likely a 427. Look for 3 bolts in the side of the block just above the oil pan to see if it has cross bolted main bearing caps. This would also indicate a 427.

a lot of the service blocks did not have an block number (only a tag that came with the block). If you have screw in freeze plugs and ribs along the bottom of the block...then look for the side oiler gallery...could have a SO in there.

Default I remember this car...

... and everyone else with an ERA will too. It came up on Ebay in March, 2008 and it was the subject of a long thread before John bought the car. Excalibir and I had concerns over it from the outset and I've yet to hear whether there was a mechanical fault involved in John's accident.

Thank you guys, for your help.
I have the car in the workshop and can tell itīs nicely built. I checked today the damage and it looks worse on the pics. rather than it is actually.

It was indeed my car. It is a side-oiler with medium riser heads and 427 Sidewinder intake. Also wide ratio toploader. What is it doing in Germany?

Hi John, we bought it off an insurance auction. Shipped it over and now its sitting in a friends workshop, it came in a week or so and now we are checking what it will need to get her on the road again.
What hit the side and did she roll over( looks like )?

The side hit a light pole, and yes it did flip. And yes I am very lucky.
