My Clothes Smell Like Exhaust?
Ive been noticing that after driving my 454 SO FE, my clothes smell like exhaust. IT seems to be getting worse. It wasn't like this a few weeks ago. Car runs and idles great, plugs look a nice tan. Same thing use to happen with my Harley.
Any thoughts?

that is one of my favorite parts about driving a cobra
mine is fuel injected and i know the air-fuel is pretty much right on, still smell like exhaust. i accidently put my jeans in the closet that i wore the other weekend - my wife comes home and says all her clothes smelled like exhaust too
i keep a bottle of febrezze in the trunk if i get really concerened

It's been colder in the Windy City. You're probably idling it a little longer in the garage before you pull it out, and then again when you drive it back in, and don't even know it. Now, if you say the exhaust, while idling in the garage, is stinging your eyes, and it never used to do that before, then it's time to adjust the carb. Of course, it's probably not good to just sit there in the garage while your Cobra is idling and you just breathe the exhaust in. Hmmmm, maybe that's my problem....

My family and co-workers know when I drive the Cobra... As they say, there is nothing nice about a Cobra! I keep a can of Axe spray in the car for those times I want to freshen up.

I had all of the idle mixtyre screws set at 1-1/2 turns out. I re-checked them tonight and maxed out the rpm. Believe it or not I went in a 1/2 turn with three of the four screw to to get max rpm. Go figure, the smell is almost not there any more. I figured qnything less than 1 1/2 turns would be too lean. Still runs and idles great.
Sometimes you just need to go back to basics.

My wife was doing laundry and left some sheets that had just come out of the dryer in the garage. I started my car up in the garage and took off for a drive.
Just as I was falling asleep that night she said "nice, the sheets smell like exhaust!" Needless to say, I slept like a baby.

in all seriousness, i would actually check the collector-to-sidepipe connections and leaks around the exhaust manifold. I have a suspicion that a 'cloud' of exhaust gas basically is pushed into the drivers compartment when going forward. through gaps around the pedals/etc. maybe you developed an exhaust leak under the hood?

When I was a kid and I'd go fishing with my dad, that smell of bait and two stroke exhaust we'd bring back after a day together was one of my favorite things of all.

An 8 cylinder 2 stroke would be awesome.

Not to derail the thread, but how about a two-cycle inline six cylinder?
The vintage Mercury "tower of power" outboard, of course!
Allison Mercury Twister 2006 - YouTube
This one's a Twister with about 175hp.
And uncowled...

Out of curiosity, I asked my wife if I come home smelling of exhaust fumes after being out in the Cobra. She thought for a second then sort of shrugged and said no - not really, but I suspect she's just used to it and doesn't notice it any more. She did add that the fellows' wives who complain about that should be happy they aren't arriving home smelling of some other woman's perfume.
