Money. A pro build is around 12k-15k. If I can get the parts and Chad & I assemble, it would save a lot of moola

Just a example for a 445ci 390 bottom end.

Google "390FE Crate Engine" and you'll get a rough feel for some of the costs that are out there. For example, this place, of which I know absolutely nothing, Ford Performance Crate Engines quotes some pretty interesting prices (note they use your core or tack on another grand or so). Personally, I think you present a "high risk" for completing your build if you tackle it yourself. Just sayin'....

Sometimes internet engine builders and parts people aren't always 100% truthful.

Now why, would you say that ?

Chad and I have built many sprint car engines, for our sprint and other for other teams, for over 10 years with NO, breakage. Plus, we built my 428FE and it ran awesome !

Intake

Carb.

When I got ripped by the original engine builder, I had most all parts sponsored by some of the best part manufactures out there. I explained to them what happened. I guess I should pull my tail back out of my ass, and contact them again to see if we could again, come to a deal. I'm sure the editors of the magazines would publish the build again. I just hate to ask AGAIN.....

Since the builder also stole my almost new,... hard drive camcorder..., tri-pod, bag and my Sony camera. So, there's a expense too.

It was hours & hours,...working on the published build and with my bad health, I don't know if I could do it again ???

besides my other chronic pain issue, three years ago I had a problem with my diabetes and such a bad infection that my blood went "septic". Total of 24 days in our hospital. I was flown to the Mayo's clinic in Minnesota, almost unresponsive. The team of specialist Doc's told us that one more day without their aid, I'd been done for. The flight alone was $17,500. Total bill was $186,000. We're still working with the Hospitals, Doctors, MedFlight and insurance company's. (I love flying, but not that time) lol

Years ago, we had great,...insurance, but 8 years ago, my wife's employer "Molex" sold to another billionaire family, and they changed to Blue Cross Blue Shield, and it sucks ! lol... All employees are pissed !

Sorry for the boring story, I just want everyone to know what I'm working against, and rather than giving up, I'm doing the best I can, to gain back my 'Sprit For Life".

Getting my Cobra back & driving/showing, will help a lifetime

Thanks for your help guys !
Kevin,
I am truly sorry to hear about your troubles. But I still believe that if you just fly to Chicago, check it out and make your deal you will have what you really want and something to pin on your bucket list and never look back!
Just my 2c

That was then. This is now. Do yourself a favor and have it built by someone you know and trust and who can do it within a reasonable budget.

That was then .
What has changed ?

Chad builds most of the engine's and teaches me.
He has a automotive business and also a performance side of the shop. He builds a lot of different types of performance engines, from daily drivers, oval track, drag and road course. He also built the blown Bear Foot monster truck motor.

He has the machining farmed out to a local engine builder, but that's it.

He also has a chassis dyno that he tunes for anyone. Even sprint cars engines, while in the
in the car. Funny how we managed that the first time years ago.

So, I have all the confidence in the world is his ability.

Why do you doubt me/us ?

I've owned a few Cobras with a 390 FE, 427 FE, 428 FE and a SBF. I can assure you it is much for gratifying to answer the inevitable question (it is always asked), "what's under the hood" with a firm and confident "Ford 427 Sideoiler". Anything else (including a 390 FE) will force you to further explain and make excuses. It doesn't matter how much power it makes, it's more satisfying to truthfully provide the answer they are hoping for.

Exactly !

I know I'd always ask it myself as well, whither in a dream to driving it down the road. So, I have to have the 428 or 427. At least the 428's were in the road cars.

Anyway,...

But, I finally got a response from the ebay seller.

"Looks to be sold, deal in the works.
I'll let u know if it falls through.
Thanks Andy"

Guess it was not to be. I'll just say it was a piece of crap. (make me feel better)

I'll look further into the 427 here on CC.
Short block $3,500 OBO. I believe it's on page #1.

Or maybe the BBM block. The block & head package is $4,950.

At least it's brand new and new technology, etc...
