My $.02

Nitrous is good safe horsepower if used correctly. I've recently added it to my BDR. All suggestions above are very good, like not using a plate with dual plane and not using nitrous at low rpm. But other items to consider are what more do you need besides the basic kit?

You must have a purge system. You must have a bottle heater that operates on pressure and a pressure gauge (Very important to have ~950 psi N2O pressure). You must use a WOT switch even with an rpm activation switch. If this is going into the Cobra and bottle in the trunk (where it should be) you will want a remote bottle opener.

Also after you have installed it, you will want to dyno the car with a wide band O2 sensor to ensure it is not too lean or too rich. Even using the correct 100 hp jets (N2O and fuel) you may run into a rich or lean condition and need to use the 100 N2O jet with the 75 fuel jet or vice versa. (All fuel pressures are not the same on every car)

Since I've installed my system, I've yet to test it b/c I swapped from a dual plane intake to a single plane. (Air gap to Victor) After doing this the car ran so lean it was horrible. I was never able to test the system. But without even testing it I have installed a plate system with bottle heater/and blanket, purge solenoid, pressure gauge, and remote opener. The remote opener is great, I recommend it to anyone mounting the bottle in the trunk. It's worth it, and get the NX because it actually opens and closes the bottle, not a solenoid off the discharge of the bottle.
My car also has a 6AL ingnition with a 7K limiter module. I probably have well over $1,000 in this system and my max jetting would be 100 RWHP.
My brother and I have been into using nitrous for quite awhile and have not had any issues as long as we ensure we use it correctly. Too many teenager stories of blowing up their Civics keep people away from it.
