Default Mild FE with F/I running 700ft. lbs Torque?

In a recent conversation with a friend that builds/repairs performance cars...he told me about a dyno of a local engine tuner that built a mild 10.0:1, 280Dur-Adv./580Lift (very smooth idling) type cammed FE, with well-ported heads and custom-built fuel injection. The motor produced just a tad over 700ft. lbs of torque on a dyno. Apparently it was a very mild sounding, smooth idling, and very driveable FE. I have no direct proof of this information, but it does sound interesting...

And, many of us go for big cams and push compression limits on our FEs to get more power/torque, yet this other guy can build a milder FE with fuel injection and produce some big torque numbers; and the customer reportedly drives it like its an easy daily driver.

... just curious to learn what the important factors really are from others, and whats not so important to do. Obviously, the custom F/I setup that was used had something to do with it but I still can't get over the mild cam and lower compression used with these type of numbers....

Question:
Has anyone out here performed testing with milder FEs and produced this type of dyno result using fuel injection or other build tricks?

Duane-
Don't know the answer to your questions, but I suggest some more detective work on your part is definetely warranted. If it's true, I would be very interested in purchasing a set up like that. Hmmm . . . .

Decooney Duane I am from the show me era. The cam sounds too small and the compression is nor high enought. If it is an FE, it would have to be a 550 cid motor with those numbers and compression. I am building a 484, 11.0 600" cam and this is a tork motor maken 570 hp and 630 tork from 2500-6250 rpm. Duane I have FI with a throttle body of 1200 cfm. I will put a set of 58mm TWM on this motor down the road, it will pick up maybe 30-40 hp in the mid range and 20 hp with the race pipes, we are still short, and my heads are ported and flowed. Where back to the SHOW ME I will wait for your report. Chaplin how's mom? and get back to work.

Chaplin/Rick,
I agree, doesn't seem likely but I won't rule it out yet as being totally impossible. The tuner/builder has been building custom fuel injection systems for as long as anyone in the business; has done many Cobras, originals, and some very rare GT40s, etc. I have no way to confirm it, and why I made the original post to see what you guys would have to compare to. I'll try and chase down who owns the car now to see if I can learn more about it. For now, its just a story with no direct proof, but we'll see...

Doubt it, Ive seen some very BIG engines just start to squeak into the 700 lb torque range stuff like a 514 ford and a 500 cube Hemi but those both have big cams and very modern head designs (wild that the hemi is 50 years old and is modern but hey the horsepower speaks for itself) An FE like a 428 with a good set up would be in the 450 to 500 range for torque a more mild set up would be 400 or so.
