I am about to replace my old ford radiator and go with a better cooling one. In South Texas heat I am always running on the edge of overheating. What radiator out there is a good deal and what dimensions do I need?

Mine is already installed so it’s hard to get a accurate bracket to bracket measurement. I did not move the factory streetbeast mounts. I am trying to cool about 410hp to flywheel and using a puller fan and two pushers from finish line.

Thoughts and measurements from you folks currently in the build process is appreciated!

C’mon mdross tell me how you cool that monster motor of yours?

My thought is to check out the puller fan options. I have a single pass radiator. When my fan is on, one side of the radiator is hot to the touch, and the other side cool enough you could comfortably rest a hand on it. (side meaning input side, passenger, to output driver side) I have not tested this at high RPMs yet, but so far this has been the case. With the pulling fan off, the engine almost instantly jumps to 210+F degrees. I spent about $300 on the radiator and about $325 on the fan. I received advice from my engine builder who has a FFR car to buy the very best fan with the best seal that money can buy, and it turns out that he was correct. I push about 3200 feet per minute of air. Its a bit loud but you'll never notice it over the sound of the car when running. Anyhow, that's the skinny

Actually when building my car could not find an aluminum rad that would bolt in so searched around till finding a highly reccommended shop in Portland,Me.Talked to the owner he built me a state of the art copper radiator with high effeciency core.Our car runs around 190 using 2700fpm puller fan and the the radiator is fully sealed so all air coming through the front of the car has to pass through the radiator as long as the car is moving cooling is not a problem.Also have a switch inside the car to manually turn on the fan when knowing we are facing a traffic jam otherwize the therm turns the fan on at 210 before the fan can catch up it rises to 220.

Thanks for thoughts - I think I found part of the issue. I used a flex hose upper rad hose. In the pic you can see it bends upward. I dont have a expansion tank-YET. So my hose was full of air. I jacked the car up and the radiator burped!!! The radiator then took a extra 1/2 gal of water and some water-wetter was added. Will test run this weekend and let you know if I will be buying a better fan

You do need an expansion tank and a way to bleed the air off.I also installed a small valve at the thermostat which helped me get all the air out.

Expansion tank is next on my list-I'm likely to go with the aluminumn one on finish line the traditional style worries me and is expensive. I cant always jack the car up 45 degrees just to fill radiator.

As for lower hose same as top. My lower radiator hose comes out almost even with the lower cross mount. Which is why I am thinking of redoing the entire radiator setup. (Winter project).

I went with the Moroso 1.5 qt aluminum tank, Summit Racing has them.I used three Harley oil tank rubber mounts that set the filler neck out perfect to clear the hood flange on the body.Click on my pictures you can see the tank.
My lower hose has a piece of stainless pipe to help fill the gap.

Well a weeks worth of driving proved that when the radiator is full of water the syem can keep the car cool. So I save money by not replacing the fan and can afford to get a surge tank.

Saweet! It just keeps getting better every time you take it out.Remember the first time I left for work 4:00am for the 34 mile trip was nervous the whole way.The ride home was incredible,nice sunny day full of confidence took the long way home.
