Hey David,
SERIOUSLY-all us humble folk would like is a set of Sunburst Wheels. Billet, magnesium, copper or cream cheese. FIFTEEN INCHES. How frikken hard can that be for you guys after this stuff??
Please respond before NASA confiscates your company, takes you off the web and makes you design the Mars lander.
I am serious...

My thoughts exactly. Maybe Peter Brock approved/endorsed wheels in magnesium. Anyone seen that guy lately?

Thank you for your kind words...I don't think we have to worry about men in black coming any time soon!

I would love to make billet rims. It would not be that big of a deal for us to do.

HOWEVER!!!

The billet alone for EACH wheel would be $450!

If anyone is interested, let me know and I will work out the best price possible to machine a set. They would be the ultimate in cool...

Maybe Lew will donate the programming time to CC!

David

Let's see,

Just 1 hour/wheel?

Even at my rate, I would be happy to cover that.

Actually, anyone want to make a charity challenge out of this? Some percentage toward R&D, some percentage toward a worthy charity. (No, not the Romney in 2008 campaign.....)

Hat/ Billet would basically be what PS Wheel does. You buy the rim then fix the center to it. PS welds. I have seen epoxy, rivites at SEMA. They would be cool- very cool. Especially with the frame.
NIce work again boys, I will checkit out in June. What about the block?

Is anyone else interested in the wheel project?

Lew,

Been really busy on the billet chassis. I will post some more pics tomorrow.

I am really interested in the wheel project. I was even thinking about it while I was machining cool parts on Saturday. I will think more about the plan and then get right back with you.

Cool. I was worried that my charity proposal had the "turd in the punchbowl" effect on enthusiasm.

While I really like the cast look, as long as they are not too bling and are lighter than what is currently available in 15" wheels, I am very interested.

Here's a stupid question, wouldn't they look odd on an S/C or did some S/C's come with the Sunbursts? Also, would they be made to fit over the big brake option? I love the style of wheel though.

Your machined center and wheel has would be ideal. The original Sunburst were fairly narrow. I think around 7" wide. If they were the width of the Trigo's then you really would have a wheel that would be in high demand. Maybe more so then some of you more recent work.

Rodknock, the Sunburst only came on street 427 Cobra's.

Wouldn't an uber Super Coupe with this frame be the balls? Increased stiffness and better aero. Big billet block with big TWMs or 58 webers. Magnesium tranny case, rear end and bellhousing. Ceramic brakes. That might compare well with some other pricey cars.

The longitudinal stiffness of your design is so high (visual guess only) that if someone following is dumb enough to crunch the rear section, both radiators are going to have a serious nose-bleed. All net loads will be transfered to all components. Crumple zones are not obvious.

One of the many non-obvious advantages of mild steel tubing is it's ability to absorb loads and energy thereby; bend, crumple and not break. Wouldn't your uber-stiff design also transfer more long. & lat. loads to the driver's belts, etc?

Definitely a Hans device chassis?

Nevertheless, it is Gloriously Fabuloso!

Thanks for the kind words. I will try to post some pictures of the chassis for the more subtle points of construction that I haven't talked about yet. We did take crash into consideration, but it is hard to see in the photos. I will post tomorrow on a few of the things we did. Remember, keeping our customer happy, and alive, is a very high priority for us.
