Darn Ernie,

Yours is dry enough to mow. My lawns both have water standing in them now and have had for two days. And it is supposed to keep raining until Friday. But even a couple of days of sun won't dry mine enough to mow. But the Cobra sure makes great strips when I get on it in the grass down by the park.

Yea, I had to leave yours out in the rain as it wouldn't start after I let it roll down off the ramps.

I don't have to worry about mowing my grass until May.

I was talking with my sister last night(she lives in Rio Linda) and she said the rain is not the problem for them, but the wind has been really bad, up to 40 mph........

Gunner.......I remember the floods of 95 it was bad in the Sacto. area but really bad
up around Oroville and Yuba City, Marysville area where they where pulling people off
the roofs of there cars and the trees in the orchards where under water....

Bob,

We have had a lot of hard wind with the rain. Some people said there were gusts of up to 60 MPH. Right now is is raining lightly and the wind is blowing but nor really hard like yesterday.

News reports here say gusts up to 85 mph, that's hurricane force, which I believe starts at 75 mph?

It was a 100 mph on the Siskiyou summit on MLK day (Monday). They had to close the resort and mountain to skiing. The resort was bummed, that holiday represents substantial income, lost due to the storm.

Has to be sustained winds to qualify as a hurricane, but anything over about 50 is going to do damage, especially in areas not prone to such high winds on a regular basis.

Odd, the first big blow of this storm knocked nothing down and left no debris. Another day or so of more moderate wind and I was driving through branches, seeing people propping fences, etc.

Ernie,

What about rain. Are you getting any? Must not be a lot if your lawns were dry enough to mow. Mine won't be for another month if we don't get some dry, warm weather one of these days. Even the gophers are moving to higher ground.

Hardly any rain for several days now, maybe a week. Overcast, threatening, light sprinkles from time to time, thats about it. Combined with the warm weather I think that's why the grass is waking up.

The THREAT of rain has been enough to stop my builder from coming out though, so the new garage is still just a foundation/sub floor.

As if builders ever need an excuse. Even in this economy, with contractors losing their gear and businesses, it's damn near impossible to get them to make a bid or follow through. We've been waving handfuls of money for several jobs since last spring and repeated rounds of calls just provoke yawns and no return calls. It took a year of intermittent attempts (= drop everything for a week trying to call, get bids from and follow up with, then quit in exhaustion for a month) to get a team in to do some pricey tile and stone work.

Well we are still getting light rain but boy has the temperature dropped. This will sure lower the snow level. At least the wind has calmed down some. Just what we would need.Frozen trees and hard wind. I just heard they are stopping traffic at Fawndale now but didn't hear if they are letting them through with chains or not. Just down the street about 3 blocks there is a low place and it is flooded and they have the street sign out telling people to avoid it for now. Any bets on how long before one of these people run off into the ditch there. This place floods every time we have a hard rain, but this is the first time in 4 years that we have had enough rain to flood it.

Ernie's builder must have came from around here. They will come look at a job and even start it and then just vanish for a month at a time. He should have his garage finished sometime in 2015 if his builder works like the ones I have had do some stuff for me. And now I get a call wanting me to let them come give me an estimate on re-doing my kitchen cabinets.

The other day Ron said the grass was SO tall, to which of course I had to ask, "How tall is it?" It's SO tall his dogs are getting lost in the front yard.

Well at least for the time being the gophers have left and moved to higher ground. I had to call the city to get my water meter reading as it is under 2' of water which is just a muddy geyser as the water is coming in through the gopher tunnels and then out the top of the meter cover.
