Not a drop here. Nice & cool though.

It sure looks dark over toward your neck of the woods.

Biggest, loudest thunderstorm we had in years here in the desert last night. Almost reminded me of home.

Too lazy to figure out how to link the picture directly.

Oh well, off to Jacksonville tomorrow for a graveside service for my father and lunch with my mother and loco sister.....wish me luck.....hope I can keep my brother and sister from knocking the other into the grave with my dad....he deserves "PEACE"!!!!

Kristen,

I made it home and the clutch was working great. Parked the car in the car port for about 20 minutes while I came in and took some medicine and got cooled down so I could back it onto the ramps.Went out and started it up and started backing onto the ramps. As soon as it got all 4 wheels on them where it was pulling the full weight of the car it just stopped and the stink was really bad before I could get it off. I let it cool and tried again and same thing. The clutch has had quite a bit of abuse since 1997, but I have never had one go out just setting like that. It never slipped a bit coming home as I had to pull a pretty steep grade is 2nd and then punched it at the top and no slip at all, just some tire burning. I am to sick to mess with it so the car will set the rest of the year until I can either get it fixed or get rid of it.

Ron, sorry you had to join my club, the "broken clutch" pack.

Maybe you can get it towed to a shop??

Wish I could just pop over and give you a hand...but it's a bit far.

I have a new shifter coming. should be on the road in a couple of weeks. I hope.

Kristen, you should be getting a package. Let me know.
BTW, my wife looks like a wet rat when drenched, funny you should say those exact words.

In the 90s to the end of the week, yuck!

Tru,

Thanks for the offer. Wish someone was close enough as I just feel to bad. It only takes about 20 minutes to pull the tranny as that ramp is the perfect height. But the way I feel now, I really don't care if the thing is ever fixed. I am seriously thinking about giving it to that cousin of mine that lilves in Arkansas and is younger and restores Chevys. He needs to learn about other cars. Hope that you get yours going soon so you can start driving it.
Out darn weather that was supposed to be below 100 yesterday for the first time in over a month didn't. It was 105 here. And a little humid but not as bad as in July.

Well, Bernie, some of us have a limited budget and limited time.

Actually the shifter got buggered in the same run, hence we are working on a new shifter.

So, I started with 21 item on the list of fixes, I am down to three.

In my book, thats not bad for someone with no money and no time.

So, when are you coming to Detroit???

But Uncle Ron I live in Texas not Arkansas.

Sorry to hear about the clucth. I had one do that on me years ago and when we got it apart it was wet for some reason. The truck did not leak oil or anit freeze but the clucth had a greasy wet feel to it. The guy at the autoparts stor said he thought it was tranmission fluid as they will destroy a clucth in a heartbeat.

No atf in the truck, as it was manual steering. Never did figure out where it came from. It burnt the pressure plate as well. Back then it cost about twent buck sand I was back on the road in about two hours.

Sorry you are feeeling so bad as of late. I know first hand about the heat. That is the main reason we want to move to Oregon. Yes I know it gets hot there to but not like it does here or at your place. You should move up there with us. Take care of yourself "Uncle Ron"

Earl,
I have two crazy sisters as well. Each time they get together the cat fight is on. My brother was murdered in 96 so there used to three crazy kids in my family. I have often wondered why I was the only one that had any since of responsibility out of the four of us. When My dad died they faught about the dumbest things. They actually faught (literally- physically) over his socks. Does that tell you anything. I just kept to myself then as I do now and stay away from them as much as possible. It works well.

Steve,

I did take the inspection plate off and there seems to be no moisture of any kind that I could see or feel. But if and when I ever get the clutch out, I will be able to tell more. It has had a lot of rather hard down shifting and all over the years and may have just decided to give up at that point. I don't have power steering so there can't be any atf in there. I just don't feel like messing with it and it is going to have to just set.

We also never got our break from the heat as they had been saying we would. Yesterday was supposed to only have been 98 and our first under 100 day in almost a month. Instead it was 105 and now they say the rest of the week will be in the 104 to 107 range until Friday when it will drop to a high of 97. Right. I will believe it when I see it. But at least we are below that darn 110+ stuff and the humidity has dropped quite a lot.

If I lived close enough i'd come fix it for you. Something had to have caused it to just quit like that. I wonder if the T-bearing gave up and leaked grease on the plate?

Either way it has to come out. I suppose it could be just to many RPM dumps over the years. Don't get rid of the car though. I still miss mine. Some day I will have another but I sure miss it now.

At 5:45 AM this morning it was @71* here it sure was nice to sit out on the back aptio and play with the pups. The high today is expected to be 93*. Not real bad comapired to waht you have out there. I know the humidity makes a huge difference though.

We never did get a drop of rain yesterday though it looke d like it was going to all afternoon.

Steve,

I never do any RPM dumps as there is no traction at all. I think most of the abuse would be from all the years of downshifting in corners. I have always eased off in 1st gear and then after it is moving started giving it the gas and even then with the tires I now have, it will break loose in a flash. Wasn't quite so bad back years ago when I had the racing tires on it. But I don't drag race and don't dump the clutch at all. Only thing I could find in the bottom of the bell housing when I took the plate off was just black dust and dirt from the clutch. Of course, I can't see the disk to tell how badly it is burned. This clutch has stood up well as I put it in back in 1997, so I guess it could just be all the wear. No squeal like a throw out bearing going away, but I always replace them when I replace a clutch anyway. Also pedal still feels good. If I felt like it, I would get it out and take it for a drive and look for it to slip under hard pull now that it has did this. But the way I am feeling, the last thing that I want to do is start tearing into the darn car. Everything on mine is easy to do, especially when it is on the ramps as they are a perfect height for removing trannys and such. I do need a transmission jack though if I did it by myself. You want another car, come get it.
At 4:45 this morning it was 82 here.

Ron

I wish I could afford the car I would be on my way out there today with trailer in tow. However I would rather see you keep it and enjoy it. There is nothing like building your own. I know first hand.

I suppose it could be that it is just worn out. I happens that way sometimes. It is really too bad we live thousands of miles form each other. It would be nice to be able to drop by in the morning and go for a drive in the afternoon after the repairs were done. Seems like someone in Cal would help you out. I guess they just aren't as friendly as us Texans are.

BTW: I like your signature line

If I were closer I would pop on over. I'll trade you for an older 911 that has a brand new clutch!

Steve & Brent,

Thanks for the offers and I know that you would. The one really bad thing I feel about this area here is that people are really very clicky. (spelling) If you aren't in their little group they would drive by and wave at a person in the ditch along side the highway. With a little help that clutch could be changed in two or three hours without any strain. I am going to talk to my best friend here who runs a garage and see if he can work it in and put it in one of his stalls. He hates to work on either of my Cobras as he is scared to death he may get a scratch on them or someone might come in and leave a hand print on them. The last time he worked on the 69 he roped off both stalls on the far side of his garage and put up big KEEP OUT signs. And I hate to ask him to come over here and help me when he closes as he works his butt off all day and can't begin to keep up with all the people coming in with cars and trucks wanting stuff done. I have gone down and closed up for him on days when he was so tired he couldn't even remember his alarm code. So I just don't want to even ask him to put in extra time on something like this that isn't that important. As for the 911 is that the same car that Turk spent $12K getting registered in this state?

Nope, this one is natural, as in no turbos. Already a CA car. Right now it can be any color you want!

Trularin

Good to hear that you are making progress.

Detroit ?... I'm heading over in April for the Knotts event with Rob from Roarin Forties GT40 for a few days. I may see if he wants to head over to see you and we can do the Ford complex

Gotta love you guys sense of humor.

Hey Ron,
I'll trade you an f250for it. Does it have to be running? I can find one in any condition you want, just let me know. LOL

It was good talking to you today. I always enjoy listening to your stories. Hang in there you will get to feeling better when the temp drops a little.

I am just kidding guys, Brent, don't tear my head off. It has just been one of those days. Can't blame a guy for trying, right?
