I am just kidding. I have one of the greatest wives. I will never forget the day because we went down to the court house to get the marriage license in our shorts and T-Shirts after work. We got down there just before they closed and did all the paperwork. The Justice walked in right as we were finishing up and asked us if we wanted her to just go ahead and perform the service right then. We were planning on making an appointment and coming back (neither of us saw the value in an expensive wedding), but decided to just go ahead. The clerk was our witness. |

Nice story. Finish the job and get home in time for your anniversary. It's only 64°F now and forecast is for a sunny 84°F day (that is until 4 PM when the daily thunderboomers move in ). A couple of my tomato plants are dying - guess they got waterlogged :JEKYLHYDE:JEKYLHYDE:JEKYLHYDE |
Sorry to hear about your tomatoes Warren. I love fresh veggies from a garden. I grew up on and around farms, so we always had fresh stuff in the summer. I wish I had a bigger yard so I could have a garden, but if I did, I would not have any yard. Plus it is so hot in Texas that it would probably not make it anyway. All of the corn fields in my area are burnt dry. It looks like all of the farmers will have a complete loss this year. I don't know if they didn't water or what, but it is dead now.

We still have a couple of places down near Chico that have stands every year and sell fresh corn, and whatever else they raise. It is much cheaper and tastes a lot better than the cardboard tasting stuff the stores have to sell. Strawberries larger than golf balls and really taste great. Fresh corn, all kinds of melons and fruit. Jack just bought 10 large ears of corn last weekend from one of them for $5. In the store here, ears much smaller than those are $1.29 each and are tasteless.

Happy 13th (?) Anniversary Joe.:) I'm pulling for you to get home for it too !! 84 !?! 82 was our low this morning and that is the forecast low for the next week. It is suppose to hit 105 today, tieing an old record. 104-105 for the next week,EXCEPT for Wednesday, then it is going to cool off to 103. All this isn't a problem though,it isn't dry heat. Nice and humid. |
Fred,
Here the water and everything is costing the ranchers and farmers so much more than it did a couple of years ago that I would not be surprised to see those stands raise their prices soon. Also they are paying more for fuel just like the rest of us. Glad to hear it has cooled down back there. Now that some of the smoke is starting to dissipate, it is much nicer around here. Ron :) |
Geez, I can't leave you all alone for two days without someone taking the plumbing to a new level.
  |

I just picked my "second" bunch of cukes. Got 12 huge ones this morning. They are growing like weeds. No, they are growing faster than weeds. Got to make my B&B pickles I mentioned a couple of days ago. Both my neighbor and myself have a garden next to the chain link fence between our yards. We have an agreement that anything that grows on their side of the fence is fair game. I concentrate on cukes and tomatoes. I've tried growing corn, but you have to plant a ton of it, so it takes up a lot of room. Plus the price of native corn is cheap around these parts. They have some summer squash, lettuce, green beans, peppers, and a bunch of fresh herbs. |

Corn loses 50% of its taste within 24 hours of being picked. Refrigerating the corn slows down the rate of "taste loss". So I buy my corn fresh about twice a week, put it in the fridge and eat it within the next few days, usually that night. Steam it, or cook in aluminum foil on the grill. Like Fred said - make a meal out of it. I'm getting hungry :o:o OMG Fred and Steve - its all the way up to 84°F now, and it has not started to rain yet. Guess I'll have to go for a nice ride in all of this oppressive heat. |
Take your cobra up to the farmer's market.
:D :D |

Mike,
As hot as it gets,I'll still/always take it over cold weather.I'd rather sweat to death than freeze to death. I am always more than willing to strip down and jump into a nice creek,in the summer.:) |
