Thanks for the information. I saw them up here one time at the airport for the wings and wheels show and talked to a few of the people but never thought to ask where they were from. I would like to see the GT-40.

The Ken Miles Prototype was at the Monterey Historics on the 18-20th . It was white, had little skinny bias ply tires on 13" wheels with hub caps, a generator and was actually pretty rough overall. However you could see where the engineering excercise had taken place.

If the Chrysler small block of the era had the distributor mounted in the front like the 260 and 289 Fords maybe the car might have survived longer?
It was a real treat changing plugs in the one I had. You needed to remove a panel on the left and right upper side of the trans tunnel to access the rear plugs. A rust free one at $25-$30K would be a great toy. Mine was trouble free (even the electrics) and while snug for me at 6'4" once inside all seemed fine.

I was 20 in 1971, and paid $1,100 for a 1966 with 30k miles on it. I sold it when I was 27 to get back together with the little lady, BAD MOVE! I can't afford the cost of one now, but I can afford a kit, and a couple year build to finish a sweet Replica of a Cobra. It had the 260 with 164 HP. IT OUT RAN AN AWFUL LOT OF CARS. I can only imagine my pants catching on fire when I double that horse power in a kit. Not to mention the big grin on my face.

I had a girl friend in high school who's father had a green Tiger. He also had orange Porche 913. Great family.
That Tiger could really move ....it was so small compared to other cars of the day. It was too small for me I'm 6'5.
But, what a car to have today!!!

I would love to have one with the 260 or 289 in it. I will always remember the first one I ever saw with the 289. Dumb me, I tried to race him and all I saw was him disappearing around the corner and then when I got back to the pits he was parked. Boy, did that thing accelerate. And it was British Green.

Back in the day - I raced a Sunbeam on Gilmer Road coming from Fox River and heading to Rand Road. Gilmer has a few good curves on it. I was driving a Corvair with 140 hp and I was ahead of the Sunbeam. My corvair handled well on the curves and the Sunbeam was not able to take the turns as fast as I was able to. I could hear his tires squealing behine me. He was was trying to catch up to me but wasn't able to. When we got to the open straights on Rand Road he didn't even try to go by me. I sure he would have had my Corvair for lunch if he wanted too. Believe it or not.

The white car is actually the Shelby prototype. It was rough but has been cleaned up quite a bit since then. The Miles car was there too...it's candy apple red and was completely restored in the last several years. |

Yes, all true.
A friend found and restored the Miles prototype several years back. I don't remember who owns it now though.

You must be referring to Bo Cheadle...I think the car was auctioned off a couple times after Bo passed away. The car sold at auction in Monterey last year for $46K. The previous owner bought it for $51k hoping to turn it over and make a killing.
The Shelby prototype is getting a new radiator so the HiPo runs a little cooler. It seems radiators collect a lot of mud in 40+ years!  |

There is a 260 Tiger rotting away in a garage (unheated with a dirt floor I believe) about 2 miles from where I live. The owner has had it since the mid 60's and refuses to consider selling it. It has been sitting in that garage for 25 or 30 years. I guess that it is now in extremely bad shape as the climate is not very kind to cars up here.  I will ask around to see if anyone has an update on it.

Yes.
They did a beautiful job restoring that car.
I recently heard that "Harry" sold for something like 60k.

The only down side to the Tiger was the rear end. It was a 2.77:1 and would go through clutches faster that it would empty gas tanks.

You're right...you really have to slip that clutch to get it going. They had 2.88's and close ratio transmissions. The MkII's had wide ratio transmissions which fixed the problem. When I had my MkI Tiger tranny rebuilt by David Kee I had it updated to a wide ratio. It makes a huge difference and makes the 2.88 gears ok. |

I had those exact same alloy wheels on a Fiat I owned back in the 1980's. I think they were called Cosmic Mags or something like that.
I always liked the Tiger and Alpine. I think Maxwell Smart did a bit for their cult status. Every time I see one I think of Agent #86. Like every time I see a Volvo P1800 it reminds me of Roger Moore as the Saint.
