I'm working on the autograph...It takes time to build a smelt, design a pen that can write in liquid gold, and hunt down the perfect bit of wood.

I've had a couple of ideas for Cobra articles/books that Dave Friedman has actually not done. The Cobra community is a much tougher nut to crack, though, as a lot less Cobra enthusiasts seem to care about the historical aspects of the cars. The SAAC is really the only torch bearer in that regard (though we will see how Shelby does on this aspect soon). There are a half dozen mags about Corvettes that I can think of off the top of my head, but only 1 magazine about Cobras (originals - not replicas), and that seems to be published only when SAAC feels like it.

Steve,

I belonged to the SAAC for a few years and then quit. They published a magazine called Driven that was pretty good and I have all of my old copies. It was monthly and had a lot of good information in it. But it seemed to me they were moving more and more away from real information and into promoting races that they would be having and such. I did learn a lot from them though and the races they had at Thunder Hill were well organized. Then my health went down hill and I quit going even for open track, so I just quit the club. Also, and I have nothing at all against making the cars as safe as possible, but by the time I quit they had gotten the rules to where you almost had to have a full race car even for the open track events which were supposed to be fun. So I sold all of my racing stuff including tires and wheels except for the helmet which I missed, and it isn't legal now.

I really think that SAAC is missing the boat in a number of ways, but they also have some really good resources and knowledge base that nobody else has. I have considered writing for their mag, but I am not really fond of the idea that the SAAC guys make a bunch of loot from SAAC, but do not compensate contributors in some way.

The Cobra site that Computerworks and Kris Kinkaid have is a good concept, but it is a little too tightly controlled and irregularly updated for my tastes.

I would love to take the best elements of SAAC and somehow combine them with the best elements of the NCRS (National Corvette Restoration Society). Maybe someday when I have enough time I'll do it myself...

Gee, Steve, do you mean the Corvette society has any good elements?

Some guy that has a newer corvette, a 2003 I think it is, sent me this.

C = Cracks
O = Often
R = Rattles
V = Violently
E = Eventually
T = Turns
T = To
E = Excretement.

I am sure that has been around a long time, but we were talking about cars and he liked my 69 a lot with the Fix Or Repair Daily letters on the front.
