As I recall (in our American history books) the terrorist insurgency as you put it eventually kicked your smarmy British ancestors out. And if all it took was a "minor blip" to "whoop" them, then so it be. Your words, not mine.

Britain has not been the same since. Though I do love them the most when a fiscal & social conservative (with hawkish overtones) is the PM. Tony Blaire was OK (but not social con), but Mrs Thatcher!! Oh what a great PM she was. I bet the male MPs wore "cups" when they had meetings with her.

ah yes...to the victor the fortunate and always honest (!) task of 'writing the history books'. However, to put another perspective on it, we were taught that our concurrent war with Prussia was much more important than some minor colonial skirmish and that we should just leave the distant rebels and their barbaric country to their own devices while we attempted to spread civilization to the Huns...rofl!

...and "yes, Thatcher was SOMETHING else". I left a month or so after she took office to come here, but I think she was one of the greatest British PMs of all time!
