First off, I want to personally thank each and every club member, for one making the event, and two braving what could have been questionable weather. I can see this as being the start of breathing new life in the NW region. I believe everyone had a grand time. Kev, thanks for taking control of the parade laps, and everyone behaved them self's BIG thanks for that. I can keep my head held high around my former racer. We saw some good racing, and cheered Karen, John, And Jerry on, in their FFR coupe's and Roadster. If anyone else put their $.02 in please do so. Cheers Tom.

Did not have time to watch the whole race, but from what I saw she had a nice race.

I saw a picture of A FFR Daytona coup with front end damage, from last weekend.
Any body know what happened.

@dblbarrel, What day was that? What car # 26 or 28? And where did you see this picture? I will be calling Karen (Lighter blue Daytona coupe) , this week, to see how Sunday went. Tom.

I enjoyed meeting the friendly, welcoming, and helpful Cobra group! Also enjoyed seeing the different solutions engineered on everyone’s Cobras.

The big bore race really delivered. The firing-up and staging sounds drew crowds to the bleachers just like bugs to a light.

Nice work coordinating Tom!

Thanks, Brent

@dblbarrel, That's Jerry car #26. When I get ahold of Karen I'll report back. I spoke with Jerry on Friday, and he had never been around the track before. I was going to draw him a map of the Apex's and the quick way around, but didn't get to it, on Saturday. Damn, hope the car isn't too badly hurt.

Hi Bruce,

Yes, after a perfect drive down, my fan stopped at the gate. Noticed it early and pulled over. Fan fuse was blown and I replaced from my fuse kit, still no fan. I figured it’s the relay and didn’t have a spare. A race crew offered to wire around the relay to get me home. However, he was very busy with race duties and as the rains were coming I did a flatbed home.

I believe the fan wiring/relay need upgrading to the ones that came with the kit. The shop mechanic who installed this talked me out of it, three times. I should have known better and went with my gut and demanded, my fault. He assured that the existing was more than adequate per his tests and calc’s and I eventually allowed it. I generally go with my way or I’m not happy. He was convincing and had mechanic experience/credentials behind him. Lesson learned, or should I say, lesson identified, hopefully I’ll finally learn that one!☺

I believe he was of the mentality like many that it’s ’adequate’ and why spend extra time/money. I always prefer ‘in range’ overbuilding versus minimally adequate. In this case, it appears it wasn’t even minimally adequate, rather undersized and prone to failure, if not unsafe. So, just need to figure out the best way to get that wiring kit installed now, given multiple components and that he’d cut one end of it in the process. I was pleased with much of the work the shop helped with, but in this case I feel they misunderstood this application.

Still a successful live testing run for the new cooling system overall. It performed as designed on its maiden voyage. Close to 60 degrees outside on the drive down, it ran 180 at stops and at low speeds, and 170 on the freeway. On heat cycle tests prior, on 85 degree day, it hit 190 then the fan kicked on and I watched it over about 15 seconds rapidly pull the temp right down to 179-180. It then idled for 20 minutes, and stayed right at 179-180. The fan finally seems in full control of the water temp, unlike before this upgrade where it would continue climbing at idle.

As you know, after it cooled I joined the Cobras in the car corral for the races. Looking forward to our next outing with the properly scaled fan wiring setup. Really enjoyed the Cobra folks!

Brent
