Sc Dashboard Layout Confusion?

Well, the ago old question "where do the gauges and switches go"

The more pictures and dash layout plans I look at the more confused I get, and that brings me back to what Carroll Shelby was quoted as saying the layouts can be all different pending the tradesman of the day, well I know the models are different, but surely the manufacturer used some sort of template to save production time/costs!

I have drawn up a cardboard template using the plan found of CC,

which has the switches 1.5" up from base line, and the two top toggle switches up about 2-5/8" which gives an equal distribution around the speedo, but I see on most SC Competition cars the upper 2 toggles are what I guess to be only 2" further up. Then I see on ERA cars the line of switches appears to be only about 1.25" up from baseline, and on it goes.

What I am trying to achieve is the right look, and one of the first things that is wrong with a lot of replicas is the depth of the dash, and it quite noticeable, but I guess there is no right or wrong way.
