Good to meet you too Paul - thanks for the kind words, c-ya on thanksgiving around.
|
Allen, good eye - yes there is some 'flaring' going on.
John, now it's your turn to show me your baby... |
Meanwhile I wait for the new motor the body will be prepared for the last take off.
It is just too cool the resin of the fiberglass does not stick to the duct-tape. The front flairs were the templets for the rear. Tape and first base of resin and micro balloon mix. http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...DSC07818_1.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07821.jpg One layer fiberglass http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07823.jpg After trimming, securing with clecos for final cut. Preparing resin and riveting the flairs on the body. One night cure. http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07836.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07848.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07855.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07856.jpg I'm working on the next steps right now - stay tuned;) |
One side note, the cars body measurements
65 57 71 oooh lala:D |

Love the flares! Looking great. |
After curing the first bond, it was time to grind the old lip off and smooth it out.
Using Baby powder keeps the fibers from touching the skin and keep you "itch free". More layer of fiber glass - inside and out. The flares match the front in shape and distance to the tire. http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07885.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07886.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07896.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07899.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07907.jpg |
After I put everything new in this project, the decision was made to get a new engine as well.
Lightened Flywheel Speck 3 clutch. Build up the accessories. Head bandages. Ready for the final drop-in. http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07934.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07937.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07939.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07940.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07943.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07949.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07951.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07962.jpg |
Here it goes.
Heat shields - more to these later. Houston: We have a drive-train. This is another mile stone in this build. http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07965.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07968.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07966.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07970.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC07978.jpg |
Howdy Pete,
Looks great! I started the engine in my Spyder for the first time this morning. It was loud at 5:30am w/ open headers. I'm looking forward to seeing you and your progress at Thanksgiving. Paul |
Nice work! How much does the flywheel weigh?

The Hydro Boost and remote oil filter/oil cooler lines are completed.
Front view, slowly it's getting busy. http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08036.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08041.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08042.jpg Had to make some modifications to the Summit heater. All that for wife's warm legs... http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08049.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08051.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08052.jpg Cable access for the engine harness. Center top panel insulated two layer of 3/8. All the panels will get the same treatment.
Heater installed with manual cable valve. http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08058.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08065.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08066.jpg Main wiring harness after trim down and loosing about 20 pounds. Everything related to the GEM is gone. Very important! http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08070.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08072.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08077.jpg Oil pressure and oil temp setup. Oil filter final shot. Well, so far so good on the electrical - if I have the same face expression after the weekend (try to finish the wiring) then you call me a very, very happy camper.... http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08075.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08076.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/germanp...m_DSC08082.jpg |
