Thanks guys, I hope my build can be an encouragement to another person sitting on the fence about their project, either one underway or a pending start

A point to ponder; Anything man builds, man can change, copy, or improve.

Another quick update, I am fitting the body onto my frame, a few changes are needed and then I will start on the birdcage. I still need to find a hood and deck lid but that will come after I buy the disc brake kit for the rear, Speedway motors has one for $430. with the emergency brake. More later. Carl

What a day, picked up a 97 Ford Explorer disc brake rear end today and started to disassamble it and can't believe a Michigan part is in such great condition, the emergency brake even works, worn out, but works. I will be mounting this brake setup on my 9in for the disc brakes, a lot cheaper than a kit. The info comes from the Ford Muscle web site and a couple Ford guys who were on the bus last Saturday as we went to Autorama. More later with pictures.

Hey Carl, sounds like you had luck on your side with that rear, can't wait to see more pictures. I've used that Ford Muscle website before, lots of good info on it.

Are you guys still moving to Arkansas?

63mercury 03-15-2010 06:37 PM

The discs are fitted to the 9in, the mounting holes had to be elongated approx .200 toward the center on the vertical, the location front to rear is just fine, I will try to post a drawing of the overlayed hole patterns. Pics will follow when I get the parts sang blasted and painted. The drawing cannot be uploaded but if anybody wants a copy I have it in DXF format which I can email if needed.

Update; got my seats(94 Acura Integra) and a hood from a Mkll, all I need for the body to be complete is a trunk lid. The other major items left to purchase are the windshield, aluminum sheet and wire harness.

63mercury 04-25-2010 08:30 PM

Another update, the hood is here, came on April 10, the trunk lid will be here within the next week. The hood is from Idaho, and the trunk is from Washington state. I haven't checked how many but I have parts from many states, Maine to Calif., to Texas and Fla, Mass., to Ariz. Here's a couple pics.

More later Carlhttp://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Build_109.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d..._Build_108.jpg

My trunk lid came on Wednesday(04/28/2010), now I can start the HOOFA part of the project, reshaping the perky but and recessing the license plate mount and having hidden plate lights. The square tube is fun to roll but with patience it can be bone.

More later, Carl

Just an update,I got my radiator today, it's from Jegs a Ford 26x19x3 aluminum unit less than $200. The air compressor tank died a slow death so I am changing to a 100 gal vertical tank with the compressor unit separate from the tank, should finish it Saturday. I have also been working on the body support tubes and they are about ready to weld in. I bought a 10.9 truck camper this summer and have used it a couple times so the car build has sat idle for a while, but now it's back to work. More later Carl.

Ok Ozgar, here come the pics of the truck and camper.http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...e_Camper_2.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...e_Camper_1.jpg they are both large. The truck is an F350, diesel, 168 in wb, and the camper is 2750# empty,I get 13.9mpg on the road with this streamliner!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just a short update, no I haven't quit, the patterns for the inside are slow to make as they require 1st cut oversize than cut to fit and than redo as something isn't right, than try again, only in cardboard for now.
When the fit is right than will make real parts in glass and/or aluminum. The job at Advance Auto parts is taking up more time also as good help is hard to find, so I get many extra hours, doing 30 to 40 hrs per wk part time. More later maybe with pics. Carl

63mercury 01-22-2011 03:26 PM

Finally got back to work, the brakes are mounted on the rear axle, 96 Ford Explorer discs on a 57 Ford 9in, sure a kit can be had for this project but
$ 300 is better than $600 or $700, plus all parts can be had from local parts house not special order.http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Build_115a.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Build_113a.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Build_114a.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Build_111a.jpg http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...Build_112a.jpg some explanation in my gallery.

63mercury 05-15-2011 06:30 PM

Another update; the ffr deck lid has been modified to closer resemble the original lid. will be doing more work on it tomorrow and will get some pics posted. I have been thinking of recessing the license plate into the lid and making a remote opening system for the lid, maybe a cable pull from behind the drive seat.More later, Carl.
