Default block identification? Help!

I have found a complete ford engine and I am trying to determine what it is. I can only see the passenger side of the block right now. but I have the rebuild tag. I have included it as a sample. I have found a phone number to the company but they are not open until monday. It's so old who knows if they even have records considering they are new owners since Nov.2001. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

AUTHORIZED FORD OF CANADA REBUILT ASSEMBLY
6108 F 6331 D
6211 F 6333 D
6303
Code C 1 B A NO. 1 0 3 4 8 4
Rebuilt ByCENTRAL PRECISION LTD.TORONTO, ONTARIO

This tag was fixed to the block and the engine is complete. The car appears to be an early 60’s ford. The letters "F" and "D"and Code "C 1 B A" and NO. "1 0 3 4 8 4" numbers are stamped on the tag and the others are printed before the letters and numbers are stamped. The company is now owned by Delco Remy International.

Draco,
You can't be certain until you can read the numbers cast into the block.

The 351W didn't come out until 1968. If the car is an early '60's it didn't come with a 351W. Are you looking at an FE? You'll have to look on the block area above the starter for the block casting code. It'll say something like C9AE ('69), or D2AE ('72). The first letter is the decade; C='60's, D='70's. The second digit is the year.
The "C1BA", if that is the block casting code means it's a '61. The 221 small block was introduced in '63. In '64 it became a 260, and a 289 in '65. If it is a '61 engine, it's probably an FE, and probably a 390. That was Fords bread & butter engine for sedans.

Is it worth salvaging, or is it a boat anchor?

Here are popular engines from '61 with engine code, CID and HP. The engine code can be found on the doorplate, but that's not going to help you. Just to give you an idea of what you might have.

E 223 135
S 144 85
U 170 101
V 223 135
W 292 175
X 352 220
Z 390 300

If I'm not mistaken, the 406 w/ 385 HP (4 bbl) and 405 HP (3x2) ran 61-63. And a rare solid-lifter 390 w/ 3x2s and 403 HP appeared in '61.

My guess is the 390 or 352.

Bill
