Default Fuel return line

I'm converting to a return fuel system..About the return line inside the tank.I remember mentions of making the end of the tube reach to the top of the tank ,running it along the tank side. Any guidance ? pros and cons.? dos and don'ts?Any trick ends ?
I have a alluminum tank 25 gal with a sump. The sump currently has three 1/2" NPT bungs,two pickups and one a drain.I plan on installing #10 AN weld in bungs. The return is yet to be planed.I want some sugestions and recamendations.It's a 24x24 x12 with sump forward.I have a 3 1/2" side neck connected to verticle fill byway of a 3 1/2" neoprene elbow. I plan on keeping the return point below the elbow.Now it looks like a large tube tigged to the inside of a #10 bung pointing upward to top of tank. I have a small vent at the gas cap. I should keep airation and expansion to a minimum,fumes are lost fuel.

When fitting a fuel return pipe make sure the pipe returns the fuel to the swirl pot in the tank so there is allways fuel around the pickup in your tank.
it could help in preventing fuel cavitation at high speed and hi cornering speeds.

While returning the fuel to near the pickup might be fine with fuel injection, I wouldn't do it with a carburetor. The fuel will be heated and re-heated by repeatedly passing through the engine compartment. Can you say fuel percolation?

I would try to return the fuel as far away from the pickup as possible.
