KK,
I keep thinking the same thing, that the carb is somewhat undersized, however my 351 is relatively calm. I've reviewed a number of web sites which calc carb sizing and spoke to the Holley tech group, and all indicated that 600 is a good match.
Also, same feedback from Holley, good all around carb that was discontinued only because of model consolidation. The car runs well, but I do get a detonation in the header/side pipes when run hard and I come of the gas quickly (running too rich?). Will look to do a general rebuild and replacement of the power valve and then possibly re-jetting the unit. I agree that it seems like the air horn should be towards the rear, but doesn't seem to be an option, unless I'm missing something. Holley indicated that it wouldn't make a big difference in performance.
Thanks again,
