Default Performer RPM vs. Victor Jr.

Just wondering what your opinions are on the victor jr. intake vs. the performer rpm intake. We are currently running the performer rpm with good results, but when i change the intake from dual plane to single plane on desktop dyno it shows a rise in hp from 415 to 450. The loss in torque at 2000 rpm is minimal (301 ft/lbs vs. 320 ft/lbs).

The engine is a 331 stroker with world products 180cc alum. heads, hyd. roller cam .560 lift, 234 duration. holley 650 double pumper with mech. secondaries.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Glenn

At what RPM does it show a HP increase? The Performer RPM is supposed to be good to 6000 to 6500RPM so unless you are running a solid roller cam and heavy springs you should be trying to stay under 6000rpm. Your cam should peak at just under 6000rpm with 234 duration.

I run the Performer RPM with a 600 vac secondary holley and a trick flow cam .499/.510 lift 221/225 duration at .050. This cam putters out at about 5500 rpm so yours should go to about 6000. At 6000 I doubt the victor will work much better. Also have you checked the hood clearance with the victor vs the performer rpm. Even with my Performer RPM the air cleander is way up in the hood scoop

I like the Vic jr better. These light cars don't need a dual plane intake as much as heavy slow cars do. Depend on if you can fit it under your hood, and 20hp is worth the money and time.

I'm running the Victor jr. intake along with Victor jr. heads on a 393. I have no problem on the street with idle or throttle response. I'd do it again!

Our engine peaked at 6200 rpm with 415hp. At 6800 rpm it was still making 408. On desktop dyno it is showing 450hp at 6500 rpm with the single plane.

If you want to turn it 6500 then the Victor is the man. I have not taken a Ed RPM off a stroker and replaced it with a Victor but I can tell you I took an Ed RPM off a 460 with Alum heads and a solid camshaft and put the Victor on it and " OH MY GOD".

If you go for the Victor Jnr make sure you have enough room under the hood. I ran one for a time and had to use a cut down air filter to clear the scoop. Found it a bit lumpy under 3500rpm but it was more than worth it above that. The combined effect of the manifold starting to work and the secondaries coming in was like running a turbo car.

I currently have the Ed rpm inlet on my car, and it is more than just plain "streetable" - will trickle along at 1200rpm in 5th without problems. But it gets breathless after 5500rpm.

To fit a Vic Jr (which I should like to do) I should have to machine around 1/2" from the carb mounting pad, redrilling and rethreading the carb mounting stud holes. This is because of hood clearance issues.
This will reduce the plenum capacity of the Vic Jr intake - now what would that do to both bottom and top end torque???

If you are spinning to 6300-6500 rpm the V-Jr. is best.
I ran the Weiand Stealth ( 1500-6500) and loved the pull from 3000-6000 rpm. But once I added more power to my 351W and began driving more highway trips I found it was better to swap the torque for the bit more HP kick from 5000-6200rpm. Cruising around town the high rise DP is more fun though ! BTW...I think your actual results may see a shift of 15-20 tq down low to a HP gain of 15 up top. I did not realize anymore than that. A 40HP gain is real high estimate unless you are spinning to 6800rpm ! If you have your actual engine dyno sheet you can make the decision based more on how you prefer to drive and which power band combo suits your taste.
