I had a real problem with clearance and did two things that might help but the first is a damn expensive air cleaner fix. I replaced the Holley carb with an aftermarket injection system. The throttle body is almost 2 inches shorter at air cleaner base gasket area. Then I modified a Holley air cleaner that had 2 small square filters, one at each end. I removed them and made tubes that route to the front grill area and have K&N cone filters on them. Photo of my Cobray-C3 from Cobras N Vettes will make more sense than my desription. It has a 542 inch Dart gen 6 in it so space is at a premium. Aluminum dryer exhaust hose from Home Depot or the likes is very easy to bend and stays in shape so you can then glass your creation for looks and strength.
