Max - if you search the archives on SCOF, there was a post about the Remflex collector gaskets which is how i originally found out about them. Someone must have sent Remflex a template and they added to their inventory. Replaced before the summer driving season and so far no issues. Havent needed to retorque yet either. If they hold up, I will be ordering several more sets as a backup along with some header gaskets as well.

More like 8 now, but a backfire is timeless

That doesn't sound like an exhaust leak.

Ideas?
I developed the same problem very suddenly yesterday, except the popping was coming from the passenger's side. I had been swapping out the valve cover gaskets right before the problem began...when I got it back home I found that somehow I had "dislodged" the distributor cap and it was "cocked" slightly rearward....naturally, the sparks were flying all over the place. Once I had it secured again the problem went away.

Check yours...it doesn't need to be off by much.

Cheers!

I've had this problem intermittently on the right side. Also, wouldn't start sometimes. Pulled the distributor cap and yee gods! Corrosion all over the place! It's a wonder it ran at all.

This should become a Sticky, it is a timeless problem. The first diagnosis of a leak between the header and the dead was dead on. It is fixed now no more side backfires.
