Wanted - heads for 289 in the coupe
Does anyone have a set of heads for a 289 that they would be interested in selling? I'd prefer a set of aftermarket cast iron heads, but stock heads that have been worked on or aluminum would be acceptable. I don't need the latest and greatest, just something for the street that I can install without a major rebuild of the motor.
Last weekend I decided to adjust the valves on the motor in the coupe and noticed that the rocker arms were not running true. After a little investigation, I saw that several of the rocker arm studs were not installed in alignment with the valve and pushrod centerlines. As a result of the misalignment, the rockers are being forced into a cocked position and are wearing the side of the stud. To top that off, when I took one of the rocker arm lock nuts off, the top 1/4" of one of the studs broke and came off with the locknut.
The heads were just stock 289 to which screw in studs were added along with a new set of stock size valves, so it isn't a major loss, but the machine shop that did the heads is now crossed out in my book.
Any leads on a set of heads would be appreciated.
