Cobra Make, Engine: (building) - Hunter #74 w/ 302 small block (320hp under the hood). . . how many wires are there in a wiring harness?

Default Ford Solenoid Wiring Help

Need help to be certain of the wiring to and from . . . .

What is the correct wiring to the 4 posts that are on the solenoid itself? Where do they lead to and from?

It does have to be grounded, correct?

Where does the + and the - go to on the ignition coil? Where do they lead to?


Anyone . . . . . . please help!

Steve,
Who's wiring harness are you using. You should have received a diagram with it showing routing of wires. My solenoid is grounded. Did you get mail I sent. Hope it was what you were looking for. As for pictures, I have yet to get a digital camera. Maybe Santa will bring one. Any questions concerning build with your car, ask here or send me an email. I'll try to answer as best I can.

The two big lugs on the solenoid are battery and starter. The small ones run to the ignition switch and the + coil. What happens when you start cranking is the line to the coil gets straight 12V from the battery lead instead of running though the ballast resistor. This contact is open when not cranking.

The +coil basically gets two wires, whether connected at the coil or somewhere else. One from the starter solenoid and one from the ballast resistor. The -coil goes to the post on the side of the distributor where the condensor attaches.

If you run the batt and starter cables reversed at the solenoid, the starter will work fine, but the hot lead to the + on the coil will always be hot, always even with the key off, not just during cranking, as intended.
