Holley wierd noise
I decided that after sitting for years I should be putting new gaskets and "O" rings in the carb. Actually the jets and primary gasket were missing. Don't remember why, I forgot the carb was even at my parent's house.
Anyway, new rebuild kit and replace the power valve and secondary spring with the correct ones slap it on and: A noise like someone letting the air out of a balloon while pinching the neck. Sound varies with RPM. I checked the secondary spring houseing while it is on the car. Do I need to remove it and check something else? It starts good and seems to run OK, but I haven't driven it or set the idle yet.

That's what I am assuming, I just don't know where to look. It sounds internal with the carb. I only know of the power valve diaphram and secondary spring diaphram that would be pliable enough to make the sound. I don't think I could hear the power valve and the noise is LOUD. It sounds almost like a supercharger.

Didn't you feed the squirrels? 
There is the Power Valve control orfice. If you do not have protection and you backfire, I understand this openning becomes a whistler.

I just went through this, so this may be the answer.
Holley's new rebuild kits come with this paper thin carb to intake gasket. It is vibrating like a reed under your carb. Get a thicker one and you should be set.

Didn't use the new paper thin one, but it could be that gasket. Didn't do it with the old carb though, nor did I have the filter on yet as I was checking for leaks.
I shot the squirrels. they shouldn't be making noise!
I'll check the power valve and I have a spare sitting at the house. Never backfired though. But who knows?

If you are getting vacuum from aound the outside of the carb., try spraying some starter fluid around it while it is running. If you hit the area of the leak, it will pull the fluid in and you will hear the motor pick up. Alsoif the carb has been setting for a long while make sure the bottom plate is not warped any. I am sure that you have already did all of this but thought I would add my 2 cents worth.
I run mine with the air cleaner off and get no kind of whistle. Just a lot of gurggle and gulping and then it is empty of gas.

I remember replacing that plate once before because of a soft insulating gasket and over-zealous wrenching.
It does sound a lot like a reed valve bleating. I will be tearing it down about 10:00 tonight if I get home by then.
I remember using several layers of duct tape on the old Edelbrock air filter. I think I will be getting a BG when I sell the other car!

try using a piece of rubber hose asa stethodcope to pinpoint where the whistle is coming from.

I am new to this so if this is the wrong format please excuse me!
I am trying to locate SS side pipes for my Street Beast Cobra replica...with 35i W motor.
Can anyone tell me where I can have them built or where I can purchase them??
