Shifter lever offset modifications
My Cobra with Jerico five speed and Long shifter, the gear lever is way over to the left of the transmission tunnel, so what I am trying to do is get it over towards the middle as much as practical, before it comes through the floor. In order to do this I thought about bolting a 2" wide spacer block of aluminium on to the shifter to space the lever across, but this may put a twisting force leverage on the mechanism as the gear lever I will have to make will be bent a bit like a Cobra 427 shifter, this may be bad for shifting etc. I guess I should just build it and see if it works ok, but once holes are made etc its all work to change if not ok.
What I am considering is if you gear a force out from the operating center, instead of going up, down and across, the offset tends to add a circular twisting force into the equation?
