Another quote from Don Gould was: "Fuel pressure is only a measurement of restriction in the fuel system and has very little to with fuel volume." So, not being an engineering type, I was reading flow=volume not pressure. So I guess the question is really at what rate is your engine consuming at WOT and at what rate can your fuel system provide fuel?

So, knowing I wanted a mechanical pump, I looked at pumps that seemed to put out from 80 Gallons Per Hour to 140 GPH, and had inlets and outlets larger that 1/4" NPT. The ClaySmith Cams unit was the highest volume and is available with 3/8" or 1/2" ports.

So I guess I need an accurate estimate of what the fuel consumption rate is at WOT. Richard Hudgins above indicates 39 GPH (I assume the GPM was a typo and he meant per hour).

Anyone care to opine as to the accuracy of that figure vs others?
Thanks!

Here's how I estimate fuel consumption: Since I have injectors that flow a known quantity and I've seen the duty cycle they have to be open at full throttle, I can get a reasonably accurate estimate of consumption. Hsssss, your engine is actually very close to mine in configuration and it takes a given amount of fuel to make certain power regardless of carb or efi. 8x50 lb per hour injectors=400 lbs of fuel per hour at theoretical 100% opening. I've never seen them stay open more than 80% duty cycle so that would be 400x.8=320 lbs per hour. 320 lbs / 6.5 lbs per gallon = 49 gph. I still consider 49 gph as conservative. I would certainly give weight to whatever Richard Huggins says though.

I don't get it, my ERA was built in 1984, I guess thats the OLD style tank and pump. Somebody must have had some problems with the tank at some point as ERA seems to have modified them since then. And yet, mine does fine on the road course and the 1/4 mile, go figure. The engine was putting out OVER 600 horse.

I think Richard H. is onto something...
