Dunno how much work it is to pull the pan on a Backdraft, but on my E-M it is easily done on the lift.
The hazard I would think is whether the weld penetrates as it should, and possibly leaves bits of slag and burned oil inside the pan somewhere near the pickup
Mark me firmly in the column of "take the pan off first!"
