Here is a link to the air cleaner in question....

I know I have seem them on other Cobras, just do not know if there is a clearence problem with the MSD 8582 distributor or not.

Anyone have one?

Was there a problem at all clearenwise?

Was there a workaround?

Any help greatly appreciated before I drop the $145 for this.....

You might want to see if one of your Cobra buddies has that air filter and give it a try on your car before you buy. I bought one of those for my BB 427 and and it did not fit. Sat on the shelf for a couple of years before I unloaded it and the moder. Getting the right size filter for a Cobra is not real easy. Even the originals use filters way too small.

Good luck.

It will depend greatly on which intake you are using. (carb base height in relation to top of distributor) You may find the bottom of the air filter housing will have to be raised or use a spacer between the carb and manifold to clear the distributor. If you know the length of the housing, just project the installed distance forward while using the carb top as a guide.

I've got an almost identical setup as you, except with a Holley 600 instead of your Edelbrock; but same block and manifold.

That oval cleaner comes with a plastic spacer that you need to clear the distributor, but it does clear fine. The only question then, with the spacer in place, would be if you have enough clearance up top under the hood, which will depend obviously on the construction of your chassis.

What motor mounts are you using?
