Help ID Aluminum Heads
Hi,
Bought a cobra with 5.0 EFI engine in it. It has had some mods, but no paperwork or oral history. It has aluminum heads which appear to have stock configuration exhaust ports. The only markings I can see (haven't pulled valve cover yet) is about a 1 to 1.5 inch cast raised circle with a cast raised solid block style letter "E" inside. This is located below the number three exhaust port slightly toward number four port (driver's side reference).
Anybody got an idea as to what they are?

Yep, they are Edlebrock heads..........they make I think 4 to 6 heads for a small block Ford, look closely at the end (front) of the head if you can and there should be the model #.........you can cross reference them in a Jegs/Summit catalog.............
Could be Performer or Performer RPM followed by a 4 digit #, that will tell you the valve size and if they are emission heads or not.......

Appreciate the info. I had convinced myself they probably were not Edelbrock because everything I've ever seen of theirs has the Vic Edelbrock script signature. Just goes to show how wrong we can be with faulty assumptions. I'll get my mirror out and see what I can make out of the ends. I do know they have the thermactor passages as it has the tubes hooked up to the rear of the heads.

New Info
The only markings I could find on the one head end I can look at is Edelbrock script, Performer, 30 D-215-16
If RPM follows the Performer, it is hidden under the thermactor connection to the head.
These markings do not seem remotely similar to the part numbers
I've found on the Jegs or Edelbrock sites.
Any ideas as to what they mean?

I'm just guessing, but could the 215 be the size of the intake port on one of the sets of heads they offer?

I'll took another look. I knew most of them are 170 cc intake port, but I might have missed some bigger one's as I was only looking at the smog heads. The thermactor connection could have easily been added to look smog legal. Turns out the Performer and Performer RPM all have the 170 cc intake ports. When you get up into the Victor Jr., they have a 210 and a 225, then they go to 240 on up. All the Victor heads use raised exhaust ports and most different header bolt spacing and or configurations. I'm sure mine are marked Performer. There is so much junk bolted on to the ends of these heads, I could be missing the factory markings and what I'm seeing is a machine shop stamping. It looks really clean, sharp and uniform, unlike most hand stamping I've seen from shops. A mystery.
I may need to get the thermactor tubing out of the way, as well as some other stuff to get a good look. I hate trying to read with a flash light and a make up mirror!

I think the "30 D-215-16" is an E.O. number for emissions cert. I don't think it's a part number for the heads. They sound like Edelbrock Performers to me.
I don't know much about them though, sorry.

I think you are right, it does look like a smog number, now that I think about it. I'll ask Edelbrock tech, may be they can cross reference it to a particular part number. I am guessing they are the 5.0 performers with 1.90 intakes, pedestal mount rockers. 60379's are most likely.

Edelbrock ID Markings
Larry,
Hit it on the head (no pun intended). According to Edelbrock tech: that is a smog number, it covers all their related smog certified heads. No way to cross to a particular part number and no part numbers are placed on the heads by Edelbrock. They can only be ID'd by physical exam. Unless they are removed from the block, can not tell if 2.02's or 1.90's (not going to happen any time soon). I will be able to narrow possible part numbers when I pull a valve cover to see if pedestal or stud rockers (probably in two weeks).
Best guess is still the 60379's. (1.90's, with pedestal mounts, smog, Performer).
