Not Ranked
I am going to take some guesses here but my background gives me some experience with things like this. I worked for one of the big 3 for 15 years in the parts side of the business. That included re manufactured and performance parts including crate engines.
At the time some of the crate engines were built by one of our reman companies. That is not necessarily a bad thing. They specialize in building many different short run engine cycles just like performance engines are built.
The problem comes in where you can't hold a tight tolerance or is will bite you.
If things are too tight they will not go together and if they do they will cook.
So you run your tolerance loose, like Roush says they do so it always goes together and percent wise you don't have problems. It think the problem comes in where you start pumping up the HP.
The custom engine guys the tolerances where they want them to be exactly.
They don't have one or two sizes of pistons, the order the pistons for the engine.
If Roush was the low cost provider I might get it. But I think getting an engine custom made by a known good manufacturer is a better plan. In my case I am going with Survival, Barry Rabotnick.
Good luck!
