Metal on metal sound (clanking)

Now that I am reasonable sure it is just a noise and not a hazard, the noise is more tolerable...

I would not overlook any unknown noise especially when making a left or a right turn and you hear a rubbing or metal to metal sound.I would also check the inside of your disc break rotor for any metal wear.When my bearing outer race spun inside my upright I noticed a grinding sound when I put stress on that area.Superformance made good on a new upright and a new style of bearing.

I guess it's just me, but I find it really annoying. Especially the part about not knowing what is making it. To my mind it's not a sound that I should be hearing.

Strange as this might sound, you might want to check the roll bar mounts and the fuel tank mounting.

Just a suggestion.

Double check your sway bar connections - especially the bushings. I also had one other clanking sound that was driving me bananas - it turned out to be a loose baffle inside the fuel tank itself and only happened when I was below half a tank. Good luck with it, though, but track it down for safety's sake as well as your peace of mind.
