Gun Doc .. I paid no tax .. mine is a 2007 ASVE also, and she said that since I built it, there was no sales tax due. And she went and checked this with the supervisor in the corner office So if I were you, I'd try an appeal (don't use my name tho' ) Key thing might be to call it a "Kit Car" .. they seem to like that description.

There was still some uncertainty among the title clerks .. the lady that helped me said she'd be calling me if Austin rejected anything. First time for all of them to do this. They had to look up the laws.

Sam,

Thanks for the info. I already have the insurance card and the paper tag. I have taken the photos. The MSO I received from Backdraft describe the car as a 1965 Backdraft 2D Roadster, so I think I'm going to have to pay the sales tax; but that's OK.....I was expecting too. I've downloaded copies of the forms you suggested and will fill them out before I go. The only negative I have experienced so far is the windshield was cracked by the shipper and I am waiting for a replacement before I put any stickers on it. Thanks again for your help. Once I get things squared aware with the car, I plan on hooking up with you guys in your club. I look forward to meeting you soon.

Nick

Default Tx title

I bought a contemporary cobra from Michigan a couple weeks ago. It is already titled there. My car was built in 84 and I am hoping since I won't tag it until Jan that all I will need is the safety insp. since it will be 25yrs old. I will see this week if I can get a insurance card that reads 66 cobra first. I have been dreading going through this since before I bought it.

Guys, here is the fact. If your insurance cards reads 65/66 or whatever, that's what the inspectors go by. They never get to see any title, so it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you have a 65 motor or a 2008 roush/KC or whatever. If your insurance cards reads as above, you require only a safety inspection. No smog/computer/rolling road ect
