leaking pump jets / vented gas cap

Here is something I came across talk to someone. I am curious to know those of you that have a problem with the pump jet leaking after shut down have a non vented gas cap locked inside the Lehmans cap.

I was told to drive the car and when you shut it down to open the gas cap to see if this solves the problem.

It sounds bizzare but I can see how it may be the problem.

Also, what are you guys using to vent the tank if your not using a vented cap?

The pump jets are fed by a different chamber using a brass piston.
This chamber is a separet chamber from the main float chamber.
When you shut off the car the heat built up in the heads slowly heats up the intake and carbs.
This heats up the pump jet chamber till the fuel expands and dribles out the pump jet.
What your suggesting will not affect this dribling. Neather will adding a pressure bypass line back to the tank.

What are you guys using to vent the tank if your not using a vented cap?

Factory Five Roadster.


I use a six inch lenght of two inch dia PCV pipe filled with activated carbon. I have a mustang fuel tank with a hose running out of the tank vent to the PVC. The PVC is tied onto my filler hose just under the body/fuel cap. One end has a nipple for the hose, the other is screw capped with small holes drilled in it, (think salt shaker.)

I shut off my fuel pump about 1/4 mile away and try to drain the carbs some before pulling into the garage when hot. If the car is cold it won't smell up the garage either way.
