Brent builds a very good rebuilt engine and should be considered when thinking of what power you are going to put under your hood. Plus, he is a darn good guy to do business with too. He does what he say's he will do and does it pretty darn quick as well. Several of us around this site have a lot of respect for Brent and a few others like him. Maybe we should have our own Angies List?
|
That's really a lot of things. I need to read it thoroughly again. Good luck !

Very nice. As RodKnock will attest, small children and adults alike cry when you open the hood of a 427 car and it has a small block in it.

... and if a customer begged and pleaded with you for a solid flat tappet, you'd put one in for them?

Just please don't ask him to install a flat tappet cam in anything but an eclectic art sculpture.
Wow, Patrick, it seems like its been a while since you've put words in anyone's mouth. Kiss your 3-month BBFEFA (Big Block FE Fetish Anonymous) chip goodbye.

I was referring to this comment, which you attributed to me, but was yours.
If I'm building another engine, Brent will be at the top of my list of people who I speak to about my new engine.
However, no where in that conversation will I ask or demand Brent for a solid flat tappet cam, for the same reason that there are no rotary telephones anymore nor are there many dial-up Internet connections left in the world. either. Technology has moved on.
So, Patrick, get out your new 3G-enabled iPad and do a little research on the benefits of roller cam technology.

Oh, dang. It's not like me to misunderstand something like that. But I agree with you on Brent. I think he's an excellent engine builder, and a sweetheart of a guy to boot. I would have no problem in having him build an engine for me either. And that would be.... solid flat tappet, please.

I think he already does Rusty!
I know Dean Lampe and Mat Twiehaus have bought several FE parts from him.

Clois is correct. But Brent steadfastly refuses to put a solid flat tappet cam in one -- regardless of how much you offer to pay him. Isn't that right, Brent?

Whats the max rpm that still makes horse power with this hydro roller cam?
5600-800 or so max (I'm guessing)? Of course the actual cam profile will be dependant on a number of variables supplied by the customer, but in general, what would the useable rpm range at this price. I'm assuming the higher the rpm range of a hydro roller goes the cost goes up considerably as well.

Ernie, I usually aim for around 5500 with a hydraulic roller. Considering if you're running through the gears, you usually shift about 500-600 rpm higher than peak hp rpm. I feel that's pretty safe for a hydraulic roller cam and if more hp/rpm is needed, then I go with a solid roller.
You can go higher of course, but you have to start looking at higher pressure dual springs (or beehives), lightened lifters, titanium retainers, etc.
