Maybe, but that would then be one notch above a truly half-ass job.

You can't... at least I don't think you can (and I've tried). I think if you get hit hard enough that your head goes through the round part of the roll bar and back in to the suport brace then the padding's not gonna help you anyway....

Probably not, but it helps quite a bit on non-impact "head bangs." I can easily whack my head on my roll bar by just stretching my back muscles. Having that padding there makes a big difference on that type of hit. Regarding the look of padding/tape, it's kind of funny... I would say four out of ten people like it, four out of ten don't, and the other two don't give a shi* one way or the other. But I've been wrapping roll bars that way on my roadsters since I was 17 years old, and it makes me feel young just looking at it. Besides, it irritates ERAChas....

Well... alright. A slightly different angle, that allows you to get a feel for the "texture" of the padding and tape. You gotta admit, fetching it indeed is.

He's a little embarrassed, since he hasn't exercised in a while.

The only thing uglier than two roll-bars is two padded roll-bars.

I put the roll bar pad on the first time that I open tracked the car and it has stayed on ever since. Required at many tracks but it is a must for the street in my opinion. Its 1" Kirkey SFI approved held on with tie wraps.

Just go look at the padding on your house hot water pipes or A/C lines, wrap some black electrical tape around it and you should pretty much get the idea of how it will look.

Aside from the all important stylistic choice of zip ties versus tape, I have to agree with you -- there's just not too much to it.
