Here are the gaps in front and rear. Not sure what sizes these are as Bruce has been playing with wheels and tires. http://jmimac351.smugmug.com/289Cobr...eSpacing-M.jpg http://jmimac351.smugmug.com/289Cobr...cingRear-M.jpg |
I've done similar fender flares on my first scratch built
Eagerly waiting for your alternative https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-s...0220112860.jpg |
This is one of the looks Bruce and I have talked about. One of the issues is whether there is a harder crease at the fender / flare vs a more blended look. I don't want them to look like clown shoes, but "big and right" is the goal...I think. Fortunately the flares are modular so it's a matter of making them the way we like. On my first car, I was concerned about having the wheel / tire / fender just right because I thought that was important to the overall look. Cars that don't seem "right" seem to miss that piece. Bruce has several wheels and tires and with modular flares we should be able to dial right in on the look we agree is good, in our opinion.

That's a great look. I think you tuck skinny wire wheels under it or go all out comp flares. You could just leave the from alone with just a litte tire sticking out & flare the back. That would seem more like original flaring to me.

I think the problem with most people looking at Dragon Snake/FIA/USRRC cars is that it seems like no two cars had the same flares. I've got to say that with what I've seen of Bruce's work I think the "look" will be there in the end though. BTW, I love the look of Torque Thrusts on a D/S type Cobra! If I could find some that were pin drive and would fit my BDR I'd spring for them in a heart beat.

I am doing the 2472 (green car above) type hard flares.............
However the front is std slab with spats...:p |
Gotta watch the flairs don't look like a shelf you could set a beer can on, this is probably goin' to be the hardest part of this whole project, getting the look rite. It took lots of time dialing in the shape of the El Cid car .

Dadgumit, Jim....this pic has me all kinds of worked up now...there's so much s*x in this pic I don't know where to start.. My vote is for these flares in the rear and the slab/spats in the front. - Allen. |
