Jim-
Did you have to move the front cross member up? I'm referring to the peice that the steering column passes through and the footboxes attach to.

Bill, are you talking about this piece:

Yes. Was that moved?

I don't think so. You see on the vertical piece to the outside of the driver area where the round tube has been ground off? I am pretty certain that is the original cross square tube there which was left in place and round tube removed. The front lower cross bar in front of the bottom of the front of the footbox is different. That is in space according to the Kirkham pedal box to be installed. I'm sure Bruce will chime in once he comes up from the lair...

Bill D 01-01-2012 09:03 PM

Ahhh....thanks! When you say round tube, I assume you are referring to the FFR round tube that is used for foot protection.

Can't wait to take the plunge too. Soon!!!

jmimac351 01-01-2012 09:11 PM

Bill, from memory from my first build this is the round tube I am referring to. Again though, Bruce is doing this and can clarify if needed. A lot of the original metal from the FFR chassis is just GONE. I think he can accommodate however far you want to go, though...

Thanks Jim!

I'm holding back in terms of expressing how excited I am to get this car in my garage. What Bruce is doing to this chassis just didn't exist and it just takes time. In the meantime I've been racing with buddies in ChumpCar. Between you and me, though, I think this car is going to be kick ass. I know you're in California. Don't worry...

Bill D 01-01-2012 09:22 PM

You are blazing the trail for me Jim. I appreciate that!

jmimac351 01-01-2012 09:24 PM

Bill, you are going to do an FIA car or a Comp car?

jmimac351 01-01-2012 09:29 PM

I ask to make sure you saw the pic of the FIA body on my chassis when Bruce first got it. Fits perfectly... I was back and forth on them and just ended up going the Comp car route...

I think we're all excited to see the finished product!

Bill D 01-02-2012 07:09 AM

I am going to go with an FIA body. What's the difference between an FIA and Comp?

*13* 01-02-2012 07:19 AM

Comp is essentially a slabside with the flares pounded out to fit bigger tires. FIA has wide rear hips & front flares

Bill D 01-02-2012 08:09 AM

Thanks *13*. I want an FIA body.

mr bruce 01-02-2012 08:17 AM

picture of my FiA body here- Webshots Rides offers thousands of the best car wallpapers.

mr bruce 01-02-2012 08:19 AM

the FiA cars had cutback doors, slightly smaller than the 427 rear fenders, flat front fender flairs, and a D- shaped grill opening

Bruce-
My plan is to use one of your FIA bodies on a FFR Mk4 frame with IRS and pin drive. Will the Trigo FIA wheels with Goodyear Billboards fir inside the rear flares?

jmimac351 01-14-2012 09:24 PM

More pictures... see the pedal box I got from the Kirkham sale being put to good use... One of my absolute favorite pieces of the build and I would not have it if it were not for the generosity of the Kirkhams to share some of their quality products with other enthusiasts. Also see the Kirkham steering column and Kirkham 289 throttle pedal mount... or is that my favorite??? ... Thanks David.
