The nice part on a 289 build - they had over the race years all kinds of flared fenders front and rear.
Pick your poison and be happy - and nobody can say "oh that looks not original"

Here is another one being looked at:

Allen, if I had to make a decision today... that is exactly what I would choose. That blue car you referenced had the flare start at the top more than the others. Not as much of a crease between the flare / fender.

Allen, have you seen Mike Pack's car? Don't you know Mike???

mr bruce 10-24-2011 01:06 AM

welp , that get's my vote, let me get things mocked up and a wheel mounted on there

jmimac351 10-24-2011 06:44 PM

Bruce, I think I want slab fronts and flares like the rears above. I also think I want to put Billboard tires on it so it looks full-on racecar. Wheels can be either FIA or Kidney Bean. I think that's the way to go with the mix of slab front and Comp Flare rear.

On the pictures above showing the front arms, it looks like you have 2 separate wheel fitments. The driver side sticks out more. The passenger side has the upper ball joint tucked into the wheel more. It looks like the tire you have on there is not much wider than a Billboard front, so hopefully a Billboard can fit without issue.

Let me know if you want me to get some Billboards and send them up. They have them over at Competition Tire in Daytona.

jmimac351 10-26-2011 06:41 PM

Bruce is working on exactly this. We are doing the "SAI Mod" on the front suspension to make the Kingpin Angle better. So, wheel fitment might take some figuring because that mod moves the upper ball joint further into the wheel. Doing it right does take some figuring. We're going to get some steel wheels made up in the exact backspace we think is needed for a test fit. Once we know for sure, we'll have to give Phil at PSE a call for just the right setup since he can do custom BS.

Sent Bruce a few Billboards and we got some inexpensive steel wheels to check fitment before spending $$$ on custom ones. They look pretty darn good!!! Bruce said sort of like Kidney Bean wheels and I agree. The fronts are $53 and the rears are $66!!!

Where did you get the wheels? I'd love to have a set of those for track days/track tires.

TC Race Cars

I think they are only ~21lbs. Not bad.

I'll dig up the part numbers tomorrow so you can compare.

Hyde, I can't wait to have conversations about this car. I just hope I finish it off in a way that does justice to the thought that Bruce is putting into this. I'm just a willing accomplice... this is all his brain and hands.
