Boxhead
The point I'm trying to make is, even though the Ferrari came in 2nd place, in my personal opinion, I was more impressed with the Ferrari's performance than that of the Cobra. Despite having such a small motor and having the weight and HP disadvantage that it had, I think the Ferrari was remarkable to have crossed the finish line within a half second of the Cobra.

I think "club cobra" is back on the shelf now, neither one planned on a lasting relationship here...

It was a sucker bet from the git-go. The ferrari numbers were out, the cobra numbers weren't. ET on the cobra was known by the owner only. ET on the ferrari was already publicized be in the neighborhood of 11.2 with an experienced driver. The lawyer got taken by an expert, and quite frankly with lawyers fees being what they are, I couldn't be happier

Not true at all. As I posted before, up to the day before the race, Dan had finally run a best ET of 11.25 or so and that was the last and fastest of three practice runs, smoking the tires right through first on a semi-prepped track. At the time the Ferrari had run faster in practice and there was a real concern that it would be even quicker on the prepped track.
A decision was made to go with a fresh track prep for the race and the track manager warned that fresh prep on that track had a history of breaking drag cars, let alone the Cobra's IRS.
The other unknown was whether or not Dan would be able, under pressure, to pedal the brutal little Cobra hard enough to win, which meant launching and shifting aggressively enough, in the zone between blowing out the tires and breaking driveline parts.
I was there and trust me - it was never a done deal. Up to the actual race the pressure and tension was so thick you could literally feel it in the air.

Buzz, the bet was made in January. How do you keep a sucker interested until race day? - manufacture a little hype that plays into the sucker's hand. You say Dan's best ET was a 11.25 the day before the race, and then he pops a 10.74 race day? LMAO! No question this was a set up from the start. Dan saw a big fish, set the hook and then reeled him in like a pro.

Life is too short to dwell on stuff that makes no material difference to either one of our lives. Believe whatever makes you happy.

Since I'm one of the kings of beating a beat horse around here........allow me:
Ferrari vs Cobra? Cool but not terribly exciting or new.
A bet for $400,000.00 ! ! ! ? ? ? Anyone believe it?
P.T. Barnum was expecting us.

You know, some of these comments are uncalled for. There were a few members here who almost derailed this whole thread from the start, now some of you just can't stop yourselves with your after the fact comments. It's sad.

End of day guys.................
we all had fun with this race, we bet on who we thought would win and had a lot of bench racing going on with pros and cons flying back and forth at the speed of light. Gotta say guys in the end, we all won, since I believe sincerely it took most of us away from the daily grind of our lives and into a fantasy world of the high rollers AND, we got to see the Cobra win. yeah, that's it, we got to see our Cobra win.
Just my two cents.
Cheers, John AKA, tin-man

John, my exact thought. Just appreciate for what it was, don't sweat what it really is/what it means... We were all entertained... If you weren't entertained we don't give a **** and don't need your post
