Hell, for that matter do you need a Cobra?

They are about as practical as having a silverback in the house. Or so my wife tells me.

In some cases probably not, in mine yes. Will never forget that magazine article I read back in the 60's about the 427 Cobra have been hooked ever since.Other than hot rodded Harley Davidson motorcycles all I ever wanted to own was a BB Cobra.
Practical? one thing is for certain hopefully will never see a silverback in the house unless he is at least a 100yrs old and on a cane.

Not a 100 yet, but I do have to use a cane on real bad days.

Not far behind you except for the cane.Talking about the brute covered in hair and dragging his knuckles, what must it be like to be near one of them?As big as they are it is incredible how fast they can move. They could tear us apart like plucking grapes from the vine.
Silverback-Cobra? fitting comparison!

To the original post, you can get that great BB sound frome a Ford FE or BB Chevy/GM , or Mopar 440 or Hemi or,,, great sound (but a little different from a small block from Ford, Chevy/Gm,or Mopar) dont let these Ford only guy's distract you. Oh yeah it is not a real Cobra, it is a Hot Rod that is shaped like a Cobra!!! Lighthing only strikes ones!!! And even Carroll Shelby made replica's

It will probably never be a collector but it is your personal car. I have seen a high quality Contemporary Classic Cobra with a 440 Mopar and a guy here in North East Aransas has a 500 Cadillac with a Turbo 350 and a straight 9" Ford end.

I am sure he has a smooth idle but with enough torque to pull down a house!

You have to decide yourself.

Thor, are you just going to continue posting inane mutterings in this thread until someone bites? If so, don't bother. That subject has been discussed here adnausium. Everyone here knows that you can put any engine you want in the thing and the only real down side to the decision is resale. So sorry, no fireworks.

To the OP get the motor you like, can afford and can work on and enjoy the ride.

I agree with Thor. Yes, great sounds come from many different types of engines, just not from a Dodge Viper V-10.

In a true "Hot Rod", 32' to say the 60's, any motor can be used. In a muscle car, like the Camaro, Firebird, Pontiac etc,....I like the original motors, and of course, including the Cobra, wither it's a original, continuation series or kit car. I can't imagine putting a Ford 427 side oiler in a Camaro.

In the sand hill race here in Nebraska, they filmed a cool Dodge Viper, with a small block Chevy ! Why ???

I would love,.....that massive and powerful V-10 in my Viper !

So in your Cobra, at least put a Ford in the car.
