NewYorkGuy, Just wondering ...How long are those duracells suppose to last and what is the replacement cost? With all that smiling and laughing you could get you a electric powered Cobra and have the best off both worlds.

Dealers will tell you about 10 years for battery life. I dont want to find out
I have 4 year lease on my electric car. I got mine in 2012 when all electric cars were still unknown and untested.
I would tell any future electric car buyers to lease, dont buy. Technology is changing so fast that your present day gizmo will be "old" by the time you finish your coffee. Just compare it to the Apple Iphone. There is a new improved Iphone every 6 months and these electric cars are as addictive as Cobras.
Dont get me started on electric car forums. They are worse than Cobra owners :P)

I only worry about quality....I'd gladly pay more if I could get ethanol free 93. Ah, the smell of real gasoline...memories.

I just now saw your post and for me the answer is no! Mostly because I mix 5 gals of 110 Leaded with my 91 octane ALL Gasoline. My 110 octane has been $8.75 gal for several years now and the 91 octane here in Tulsa usually sells between $2.75 and $3.50 gal.
My original 427 Iron block side oiler with solid lifters really likes leaded gasoline. Smells good too!  Leaded gas solves a lot of problems.

Only experience I've had is to ride along in a Tesla Roadster and it was a damn nice experience other than being a bit tight for yours truly. Several years ago, during one of PCH drives for the Western States Bash group, a few of us came across one as he headed south out of Half Moon Bay. Seemed to do just fine on the moderately curving road and didn't dwaddle taking off from a stop. Perked my interest, so I begged a ride from a gent that brought one to our local car show. You don't notice the difference in quiet much in an open car...just wind rushing at speed as in anything quieter than a Cobra. I guess if I lived in London or NYC, it makes sense....just need a couple of more generations of battery technology to get the weight down.

I agree Clois, I used to fill my car at the race track with 110 leaded race gas (legal in CA. Only at the track). Car never ran or smelled better and loved the light tan color at the side pipe outlets. I'd fill'er up when I left for home but it doesn't last long in a big block.

I wish someone would design a cool looking body shape.
For us commuter peeps, our electric cars look like eggshells.

The Model S not only looks good, but it's damn comfortable to drive in. And it's FUN to drive. Yes, it's heavy, but driving it, you really don't know it's as heavy as it is (I'm guessing low center of gravity helps achieve the excellent driving characteristics). It's well made, luxurious, for the most part reliable, comfortable ride, and like I said, fun.
As far as comparing the Model S to the Roadster, it's not even in the same 10 generations of cars. It is so far improved that you would never know that they were made in the same century.
Anyway, despite being a pain in the butt to get, I suggest you Cobra owners start going to your local airport and filling up some tanks with AV. It's smells like, well, I don't know. It smells great.

When I was building FFR 4883, I thought about the ramifications of building something as basic as a carb'd V8, and knew the mileage wasn't going to be terrific.
My previous V8 carb'd vehicle was my 65' Mustang with a 600CFM Carter that I would take up to Lake Tahoe along with my needles and jets. Best I could ever achieve was 14mpg so I took that and figured 12mpg on my 347 motor.
Fast forward to last month and my 886 mile trip to Huntington Beach and back to Sunnyvale, averaged 16.9mpg with a best of 19+mpg going down (headwind was brutal coming home, averaging 15-16 northbound). This from a 400+HP motor.
So my answer is actually NO; cost is nothing; I only track mileage on long trips so I know when I need to fill up. Otherwise, I'm good with paying whatever for the pleasure to drive my machine.

I just got home from a long week at work, spent some time with the family and had to go run an errand.
It's a beautiful cool evening so I took the roadster and ran my errand, then found myself cruising around, blasting through some curves, powering out of some smoking oversteer and generally loving life. With the wind in my hair and the sound of the V8 through those big side pipes it was glorious. Had a big grin on my face the whole time.
I really don't give a damn what the gas cost.

G PETE, I stopped using 260 in favor of 100LL AV fuel. AV fuel smells better, with many of the same and BETTER characteristics. Look up your local airport, bring some 5 gallon jugs, and give it a try.  Not that it matters for the couple thousand miles a year put on the cars, but it will also save you a couple dollars.

No....insurance is cheap....maint is cheap....repair is cheap....license is cheap... depreciation is cheap.... probably the least expensive car I own to operate...
My neighbor has a Tesla, he is afraid to take it more than 50 miles from home...he knows the resale value will kill any gas savings....probably the most expensive car (life cycle cost) he owns.

Up here in Southern Ontario Canada, 91 octain runs just under 7 bucks an imperial gallon. If you are lucky, That might get you 9 - 12 city miles a gallon. That is if you are bein' a good boy. I built mine as a looker. I don't care what it costs to drive. I do mind that Nitto 555's, 315 R35 17 cost almost a weeks pay. Each!! I will not run Bauld-dinies. they are too greasy. Not to mention driving in wet weather tends to be stressful.
