They put that Gallardo V-10 in the Audi S8 in 2007;)

Here's a slightly used REAL Porsche for sale in NY area. Just needs a little buffing out and good as new! What the hell...this thread is going to hell anyways!;)

Totally disagree. After 1998 (993), the last air-cooled Porsche, they're not REAL Porsches any more IMO. They went from hand-made to mass-produced with the introduction of the 996. And today's 991 is the Titanic in comparison to the older models and the traditional 911 shape lost.

The 991 is a great car, but VW/Audi/Porsche combo lost its direction/way in terms of the 911. Today's Porsche has '14 GT3 engine fires, recalls for emissions defeating software, getting rid of manual transmissions (but now bring it back in the next gen GT3), etc.

Nah, I'll just continue to enjoy my REAL air-cooled Porsche. :p

dont know if you have a real comparison, your statement is exactly that what everbody thinks that should be stated about porsches,

i am using my porsches for daily and frequent riding, about 20 -25 t miles a year,
so i have to change quite often, in sum i rode about half a million miles on 911
i never had a porsche with automatic transmission, you can get even the newer with manual trans, (exception is the 991 gt3)
it is true that the quality of the aircooled ones was better (is sold my 964 with over 200t miles) but they are gone and the newer are faster and better in driving dynamics, (german autobahn is daily competition ;)) the 996 and 997 quality was a nightmare but porsche gives a guarantee up to ten years, so it was no problem,
the 911 g-models were a nightmare in driving on fast and curved autobahn-sections, you cannot know this, but in germany there is no speed limit and especially the bmws and audis had the much better suspensions in former times and were faster on these curved autobahn-sections, (i am talking about 150 mph sections), with the 964 4wd porsche began to solve these problem, getting better with 996 / 997 and the 991 has the best suspension i ever rode in a street car, (no more bmws and audis passing me ;)), i have to admit that the 991 engine feels a bit softer than the 997 engine which was the most brutal engine (3,8s) in all my 911
and finally: i don't care that much about emission defeating software....

You basically sum it up. Air-cooled quality better. New cars are faster and better drivers for daily transportation. And the newer cars such as the 996's and 997's were quality nightmares. Engine fires in the '14 GT3 didn't help either.

The rest of us just advocate for a return to a smaller, less gizmos, noisier and more soul-full driving of the early cars. You know, REAL (1998 or earlier) Porsche's.

Calling most Porsche enthusiasts wrong is certainly ONE person's opinion not widely held at least here in the USA. ;)

peter, while you're educating us on Porsches, maybe illuminate us on this as well (post from another thread), inquiring minds want to know :)

while driving with speedlimit of 55 i understand that driving perfomance has maybe another relevance for you,
and maybe we are mixing classic cars and modern cars features

All the Gallardo engines were Audi made and shipped, as were gearboxes and AWD units.
I can't recall, but also, that might have been when they had 3-4 V10 engines but all were slightly different blocks which I never understood.

Well, Peter does have a few tracks over that side of the pond. Like Nurburgring and Spa to name a few!;)

How dare you call RodKnock out for driving 55 MPH

Anybody who knows RodKnock knows that he doesn't drive :p

Bernica 03-21-2016 03:20 PM

Well, this thread has gone to hell and still survives!
For you Porsche fans...enjoy this little run (about 8 min I think) by Sabine Schmitz on the 'Ring killing the competition in a GT3 R. She is quite the driver...and in the rain!!!

Sabine Schmitz dominates the Nurburgring

rodneym 03-21-2016 03:24 PM

BTW, congrats to Evan on getting a great price!
I think you're gonna miss the Cobra.

Hey! I resemble that remark.

BTW, here in NorCal, some of us actually ride a bike or run to work too, ya know. :p

Actually, if you do drive 55 here, then you know what will happen to you here on our roads. I'll save you the suspense. You'll be crushed.

HA! I had my daughter out learning to drive freeways down here in LA and she was stayng a steady 55. A Highway Patrol pulled up next to us and he said over his loudspeaker "young lady, please do us a favor and keep up with the traffic". At that time, traffic was clipping at about 65-70 mph!

peterpjb 03-21-2016 03:49 PM

70 mph is pretty cool :)

NewYorkGuy 03-21-2016 05:56 PM

Whats the story with this real cobra?

Now that Evan has sold cxs4206 for $228K, is there a reason why this real cobra built in the 1960s hasn't sold? Its been on eBay for over a year. No takers for $1.5mil?

70 mph on a CA freeway sounds kinda slow---oh, wait, there was a CHP present? Yeah, that'll get people to slow down to 70.

I'm frequently on Hwy's 17, 85, and 280 and I go with the flow of traffic. I get passed regularly by drivers in the 80-95 mph range.

Article in the San Jose Mercury News last week about hwy 17 crashes at a 10-year high.
