Oversteering problem - Need HELP, please
I have a 1966 FFR Mk III 351 W. My steering is really "twitchy" -- slight movement of the steering wheel at highway speed and BANG! I'm in another lane. I'm guessing that a change of rack and pinion gear ratios might be the answer. Two questions: Am I going in the right direction toward finding a solution to the problem? If this is the issue, any advice on where to go to get it adjusted or replaced? Many thanks in advance for your help. ~~ Skip

It shouldn't be that sensitive. Check your suspension and alignment settings. Make sure you have good tires that aren't old or hard (or just crappy tires). You can also run the front tires at a higher pressure than the rear, by a couple of pounds.

Mine is like that (or was...I'm rebuilding the front end now). The rack that was in the car was 2 turns lock to lock and powered.
How many turns lock to lock is your rack and is it power or manual?
Checking suspension for wear or loose components is a must also. Even if it feels okay. Sometimes people do some stupid stuff when building these cars.

FFRs are notorious for bump steer if all the components aren't compatible. There are many threads over on brand ffcars regarding the fixes.

SP's got you on the right path. And if all else fails (compatible suspension components correctly adjusted), look into adding the SAI mod.

Mine was the same way. Had a quick ratio flaming river rack and pinion. Wrist turn= lane change.
After adjusting suspension, alignment, balance, etc. it was still sensitive. I just learned to live with it. After a while, you'll never notice it. Your previous owner might have been an auto crosser and needed the quick ratio steering.
If you want to change the rack to a slower ratio, I believe they go for about $700 not including installation.

You might need to have the suspension scaled if you are running coil overs on all four corners. My car was very unpredictable till I had it scaled my rack is a manual quick ratio, perfect for this car. Good Luck

Do you have a solid rear axle or IRS? I have seen IRS setup's that are adjusted with a reasonable amount of toe-in and this will cause the front to act really twitchy. Usually it is done if the car was raced in some Solo II events.

What is your FFR chassis number?
Which coil over shocks do you have (Gold, Silver, Red, and the brand)?
How many coils in the springs?
Tubular front A arms or donor Mustang?
What is your height set at front and rear?
Which rear suspension set up do you have? 4 link donor with donor mustang springs, 4 link with coil overs (again which color and brand, how many coils in the springs), 3 link, or IRS?
What rims are you using (diameter, width, offset if you know it) front and rear?
What tire size front and rear?
How old are the tires (there are date codes, Google how to read them)?
Finally, when was the last time the car was aligned?
We can start from there, the more details you can give us, the better chance of actually getting a response that will help you in the long run.

I have an early MKII with 135k miles. Over the years I tried many things. Did the bump steer, alignment with .5 neg camber, 3 link rear, 4in ride height, 21psi front, 23psi rear. The thing that really helped the most was going to a slower steering ratio. I had a 3:1 then tried a 3.7:1==nirvana. No more unintended lane changes on the freeway. I still think about the SAI mod but I'd rather spend the money on trips and gas. It's very livable now.

On top of the questions I asked above
What are your cold (without the car being driven for a few hours) tire pressures you are running front and rear ?
