Still impressive numbers for sure! Just more $$$ for that porting!;)
|
The BBM head claims it can use 3-5 degrees less timing than a stock ED head. Which is nice with crappy fuel.
|
Ported numbers for all three. Pond, bbm and Barry's are around the 350 mark.
All reports suggest any of the options above will work equally well. I'd opt for the one that gave you the best price. The only ones to pass on would be the blue thunders, and that's only bc the have different exhaust port heights which will mess with your headers, else the BTs put out the highest flow numbers iirc. |
Survival Heads
I have Survival heads un-ported and got 550 Hp with a hydraulic roller cam.
It not exactly mild but it's not over the top either. I disagree that Survival heads (Barry's heads). Are for high HP. He designed them to get numbers like mine and more without porting to keep the cost down. |

lol, yes. Although, driving and getting on the motor in a Cobra is so fun. Light weight, sitting low and the beautiful noise of the side pipes gives me a smile every time. So not quite as exciting, but still a ^hit load of fun.
That's why I can't have a purrrrring kitten in the Cobra. |

I just got this a couple weeks ago (501). Planning to build "Ollie the Dragon" - sure the intake goes and will be replaced with Weber's 48IDA.
That will be fun!! https://scontent-iad3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...0f&oe=57EC82E7 |

All kidding aside, it should be a nice build though. |
"Out of the box" is great, but even some hand porting can add quite a bit of power. CNC porting is awesome, can bring a lot of power,..... but expensive.
Brent, what do you recommend for best bang of our buck ? Do you have any bench flow number results between the two and costs ? What other massaging techniques , mods, etc should be performed ? Like I said, you can spend a butt load on heads, to get maximum HP, TQ, so what should I have done and not break the bank for things/parts, that won't make a big deal ? Especially,...what needs to be done to the FE heads ??? Maybe I should start a new thread about heads ? Yes,....no ? |
I have not read the whole thread so excuse me if I am off base. Be careful when you are dialing up the hp. It can be fun to have but there is drivability to consider. How will it run at 1500 rpm when you are trying to go 25 mph. Things like that come up a lot for me driving around. Huge cams do not like that. You end up doing 2500-3000 rpm to keep it from bucking. It's not a sprint car. If you feel the need for 6-700 hp you might consider building it for nitrous.
To the OP have you driven a cobra? |
Yes Bill, I have a Cobra. **)
Please read more of my thread, of what I want, need and can handle. :D 600 HP & TQ on the street is fine, depending on the cam specs and compression. Etc... I'm not building a drag only car. . |

How much does your 482 produce ? |
550 something.
I believe as you go above that it gets dicey. |
